I saw this engine on Ultra's web sight. Anyone know what the extra water line is for that comes out of the front of the manifold? Looks like the two dump lines go the headers but what is the third one for?

Oh, did not know that you needed a dump with lightning headers.

looks like the engine that Froggystyle put in his Ultra. Ask him or the new owner, clownpuncher

Ok so this brings up a good question. Can you or should you run a dump line even if you are running headers like the lightnings?

It was a photo of a 21 deck.

Here you can see with mine thats where I have the temp sending unit. I have always wanted to be able to feel the water temp out of the motor, but since it all dumps out the exhaust you cant.

run a new housing with three dumps leave it like it is , and route a valve off the third - then plumb an over board right by your hand ( where you can reach down aand feel it ) then you can a- see that you have water going into the engien ( v drive trick when the impellor goes ) and b check water temp

what do you do with the third dump? Does the line out the side spray on the rear passengers/motor/hull at all? Neat idea!

not if you point it at the water ( angle dump )

may be rigged to a pressure bypass to reglulate block pressure. The bypass would be at the end of the line, and if/when pressure ever got high enough, some of the block pressure would exit that way. I run -10 out of my oil cooler, into a crossover, then -10 out of the thermostat housing to each lightning header. My block pressure never gets above 19psi, and I don't have any cooling/overheating issues.
Not exactly sure why they would do it that way, unless they just wanted to reduce the amount of water going to the lightnings. A big duration cam would be more apt to induce reversion with more water present, so maybe it was a pretty looking bandaid for that problem? I just had longer collectors spec'd on my lightnings so that the water entered the exhaust waaaaaay down the pipe.
Just PM Ultra28 or big John from the Corona store to see wha they have to say.

Nice idea! So let me ask you this then. Does the addition of the third line effect the exhaust cooling at all?

Hey Lucky, is this how you have your boat plumbed?

that is what the gate valve is for - you just want to control outlet , otherwise its all the same -

nope - mine don't run long enough lol - but yes on my rason i had it plumbed that way and no problems -- the cruiser - has left and right temp guages for heads - so i moniter it that way - right in front of my nose  I also run lightning headers and dump the water out of those - boat ran cool - and it was clean
