My boat had it changed 60 hours ago and I wanted to try doing it myself while the boat is at home...Also, trying to save a couple of bucks in the future....
How hard is it to do? Are there any step by step instructions anywhere?
Where do you buy replacements? Which ones are the best?
Thanks
Tarek

You need to find where the water pump housing is at. There should be some bolts... ours has 4. Take the bolts off. Take the housing off ... there should be a rubber finned impeller in there. Take it out...put your new one in..and them put the housing back on. We get ours from Savage Marine.
( I may be wrong on how to change it out though... so better wait for a man to respond back) :p

If you have a 496 your housing is next to the power steering pump and is made of brass so if you sucked any sand up at all you probably scared the housing. I just replaced mine 450 dollars. a bad design if you ask me!!!

You can resurface that removable plate a couple times.....But the cover is a different story....

Goose,
They are pretty easy to do allthough you may be standing on your head to do it if your engine compartment is packed in tight.
Don't be shy, jump in there, not before getting the service manuel out.
I do mine at the onset of every season no matter what. A fuel filter/water seperator is a good idea too, you may have to move it to access pump housing anyhow.
Cheers, Greg

Recommendations?
What are some good one's? I need to replace all 6 of mine...I only tow the boat to/from the river 2-3 times per year. The rest of the time it sits in storage.
I know Goodyear Marathon's are good...I have only heard bad about Carlisle's...
Help a brutha out!

Just my 2 cents but if it does not come out as a whole impeller DO NOT just put in a new one, whatever it takes try to rebuild with the pieces and make sure you have as much as possible or you will have troubles later on!! NSF :2purples: :2purples:

Lift your seat bottoms of your rear seat. There are 8 to 10 large SS screws remove them & the seat back will lift out. It's on your bottom left side of your motor. Make sure you take note on the large black hoses on the back of the pump. Remove the belt first. If you need a hand I could swing buy. After you see it done it's a breese.

Is removing the belt just a matter of loosening the tensioner?

I have 99 Baja 232 w/ a 7.4L, a buddy of mine told me I could change it my self ,I looked at it and changed my mind and had the dealer change it. the mechanic told me It was the hardest one he had ever replaced, took better part of the day, the bill was $200.00 well worth every penny. Some things are worth having done by someone else.
