what happens when you hit the rev limiter ?Took the boat out yesterday . iwas at 61 mph and turning 4800 rpm with a 24 pitch prop. My motr is a 496 ho is this rpm correct. also when i run a 22 pitch prop i run 60 at 5000 rpm never hit the rev limiter. if i have 6 adults and loaded i do 60 if i have 2 adults and very little gas i do 60 with the 22 pitch prop. my boat is a 29 shockwave mid cabin. :rollside:

Thats funny. I am not sure about your motor but 4800 sounds correct for some reason. Have you just tried to look up specs on Mercruiser's Web site yet. I think it tells you the specs. Also there was a rpm, prop slip, or speed calculator someone posted awhile back that will tell you these things. Hope this helps.
Jared.

If your turning 4800 rpm now with the 24, it will be too much prop when it gets hot. I would stick with the 22. 5000 is the top of the rpm range you want with the 496HO, so you are right on with the 22.

That sounds about right,496ho rev limiter is set at 5150.Atleast i know mine is.My tach is not exactly on but i've had a hand held scanner connected recently and seen the actual rpm's.5150 and then smartcraft buzzer sounds off.I've had my best luck with a labbed 24 all around summer, winter, loaded and unloaded.Being a v you may have different results but 24 labbed may be a prop you want to try and see how it works. You can pick up those couple hundred rpm's with a labbed prop.
