Does anybody have any tips or tricks to attach the u-joint assembly to the engine and pump. The part that is difficult is attaching the assembly to the engine, trying to get the a socket on the bolts and getting them tight enough.

Mine take a large alan wrench tip. It's about a 3/8 inch size alan tip in a socket. I guess its called a hex bit socket. It's like the one on the far right of this page from the link. I stick a breaker bar through the U joint to keep from turning over the motor while I tighten or loosen them. If you go this route, don't buy a cheap hex bit. I broke my first "Made in Taiwan" and slammed my nuckles into the exhaust logs. After that I bought a SK from the local auto parts shop.

Yep, use the Allen-head bolts. That is what is supposed to be there. I usually loosen mine before pulling the engine, and then torque tighten them after it's back in.

that's what I was thinking about using was allen head bolts. But they are hard to find and I assume they should be grade 8. Any suggestions on where to find them.

Our local ACE hardware store has the "7/16" grade 8 allen head cap screws".

Mine has 12 point bolts and i use a wrench with loctite. If you guys allen head bolts, make sure you use a good allen wrench. If the allen wench breaks off in the bolt head, your up the creek.
