That was a paraglider, not a hang glider. Looks like he got spit out of a thermal and the chute collapsed. The beeping you hear in the video is a vertical speed indicator, or VSI.
I grew up in Albuquerque, and during the late 70's I gathered almost 150 hours in hang gliders flying from the 10,700 ft Sandia mountains. It was pretty cool stuff....

Wow, the ground was coming fast, then even faster when he reached for his GPS, the fall out of the tree reminds me of a tree climbing incident when I was just a wee lad...

You know all those guys running around in the background "esta bien?, esta bien?" made me wonder if he had parasailed into a marijuana farm...

I used to paraglide up here at Lake Tahoe, I had one time my wing collapsed l but I was only about 500 feet above the the mountain pass. There was not enough time to throw my reserve but about 100 feet from in the ground my wing reinflated and I pulled out of it, Lets say I did not fly for a couple weeks after that, but I am looking into buying a new wing for this spring flying season!

My first job was at a company called Delta Wing, we built Hang Gligers & Ultralights. I used to hear about all sorts of scary shit back then.

I worked at Electra Flyer in Albuquerque. There was a guy there that had been at Delta, Irv Alward. Know him?
Ken, I don't know much about paragliding, but hang gliders are pretty safe. Heheh, I say that and remember a funeral or two and a mountain rescue of a severly injured buddy. At the time we would all puff up and say "It ain't gonna happen to me, he just didn't know what he was doing". :D :D

Lucky guy...at least he kept his head on, and didn't panic. I did a little low altitude hang-gliding back in the 80's, and gave it up after realizing I never saw any old hang-glider pilots around... :2purples:
It was the shiat, though. Nothing like standing on the edge, leaning into the harness, taking 5 steps, and pulling away from the hill...felt like superman. :D

Lol...yeah, it was fly or die. :hammerhea :D I like to think, I'm a little wiser now. Found other ways to have fun, and get an adrenaline kick, where you don't die if you crash...crashing sucks. :hammerhea

I had a co-worker that used to hang glide. I asked him if he were a Human Lawn Dart....
He didn't say too much about that... :D
