Y2K...gotta love it!
Is that yours? What power? What drive?

FASTERDAMITT

That all white one belongs to a guy named Gary in New York. Mine is in production right behind his should be done sometime in April. Gary is going with the new Merc 600SCI, I'm going with a Leon Dereberry 572ci 725HP,non blown for now. Mine will be white also. Undecided about graphics.

Oh, the Race boat belongs to the legendary John Cohen, founder and builder of Superboats. 4 Offshore World Championships and dozens of national titles.

The Y2K is my dream boat...fast, smooth in the rough and trailerable. If I only had the $$$ I'd buy an all red one in a heartbeat.
I assume the guy with the 600SCI will have a Bravo 1 behind it.
What are you driving with your 572? 750hp sounds like too much for a Bravo.

FASTERDAMITT
03-12-2005, 03:43 PM
Gary's going with a Stellings 12" set back box and XR drive.
I'm using Imco 12" box and XR drive.
I had an XR on my American Offshore with blown 700hp for 100hrs until I sold it. If you drive it right it will last. John, and alot of offshore racers use the XR in 8' seas racing with the HP525. Now that's impressive.

ECeptor

racing in 8' seas is amazing in itself...
You need to post a review here when you've gotten a few hours on your new Y2K.

What will your's weigh fully rigged? I was thining 4,500lbs...

FASTERDAMITT
03-12-2005, 04:59 PM
Your gonna be real close. Mine will be full race foam and balsa cored hull. Gary's will be a pleasure hull non cored. I know that John had to add weight to his boat just in front of the engine to meet the F1 class rules last year, and he still has a v-birth and bench's on his race boat. Not a hollowed out cabin as alot of race boats are.

That's amazingly light for a 31'8" boat. How much more for the race hull - $6k?

FASTERDAMITT
03-12-2005, 06:25 PM
Hows this?
Race construction 3 to $4000.

3-4k is a no-brainer for the lighter hull.
So, what are you estimating the 750hp will get you...85mph?
Too bad I didn't live closer to Palm Springs, I'd insist on doing a pre-delivery inspection on her when she was finished!
Like I said earlier...great boat....I'm jealous!

FASTERDAMITT
03-14-2005, 09:11 AM
85? There seeing low 80's with the HP525. 74mph with the 496HO. Nobody's sure on mine, because of thiers so many different setups out there. I think "Dirty Cash" race boat has 750hp and is running around a 100. He's a older design non stepped hull, but has it dialed in. There's a couple of others with similar power and running low 90's with Imco shorties or Speedmaster drives. I think thier prop is too high to keep the bow up.http://www2.***boat.com/image_center/data/520/478r30dirty.jpg

ECeptor
03-14-2005, 06:35 PM
i thought i might be a bit low, but didn't realize I was that low!
I plugged the 496HO and 525 numbers into the speed calculator I use (sqrt( power/weight)*constant). If I assume you'll have 700hp at the prop, you should be running solid in the mid 90's. That's damn fast for a single engine v-hull!
I read somewhere that the Y2K does indeed run faster with a deeper x dimension. The seems to be a sweet spot there somewhere

I thought I'd give a little teaser to the other side of the world. I was a big regular on cats & tunnels here until I decided I wanted a big bow. Sold the Offshore cat. Change of pace I guess.
Now about the engine on your Y2K. What price are you expecting to pay for the 600SCI?

That would be one hulluva road trip on the bike, but would be worth it!
BTW, the bike in my avitar is not mine...it's a one-off show prototype built by Honda. My bike is a Honda VFR...still a sweet ride and a blast in the twisties!

Cool, I had an 86 VFR 750. What an awsome bike that was until my riding buddy bought a RVF1000. We then from 80mph sweepers to 100mph sweepers and my frame/swingarm flex was scaring me to death(almost). Sold it to my sis and picked up a 96 900RR. Some people said they did'nt like the quikness of the steering, but it could corner with anything on the road. I loved it.

04-12-2005, 04:54 PM
Unfortunatly mine is not that far along yet. We should be in the rigging dept. in a week or two. This one was maiden launched last weekend. 496Ho, he doesn't have gps but speedo registered 77mph. Probably 74 reallity.
The owner of Superboat does not want to sell a boat rigged minus engine. However he will sell a bare hull for 36k I think. But that would be a conventional hull not foam cored.

Hey Faster,
I was not familiar with super boats until my dad (HotLavey) showed me your pics....Man what a great looking boat. I generally don't care for east coast boats but this is an exception for sure. Although I have no motorcycle for you to ride I would like to come out and see your boat after you take delivery of it. I think your in Palm Springs right? I'm in hemet, just around the corner from you. Let me know if you would be ok with this, I really want to see that boat in person!

Sorta yes and sorta no. There used to be a 21' Superboat that i saw at the Catalina Water Ski Race every year up until a few years ago. I think he ran in F2 along with those courages souls in the Coors Light outboard.
Now when is John going to redesign the 24'???

I just browsed that article at a grocery store. They compared a 80k superboat to a 160k activator, 180k eliminator and a 140k advantage I think. They all had 525's or similar, and the superboat was the fastest buy a bit I believe. It came in second like mentioned to the activator, only because it doesn't have as many standard items or quite as polished a finish in the cabin, etc, and less bling.
I have been wondering something about the Y2K as it is on my long list of possible boats for next spring, is there room on the back bench for 4, or with the 7' beam only 3. I would like room for at least 6, and with no ventilation really for the cabin I don't think many would like to ride down there.

The Y2K seats 5. The cockpit is as roomy as any other 30' V. There is no side storage is why. The sides of the cockpit to hull outside is only about 6-8"s. There could be room for 6 if he eliminated the rear seat armrests on the two outside seats.
As you said the boat in not about Bling. Peformance is John's main goal and built like a rock. Mine was ordered as a race boat with foam and balsa coreing in the whole boat. I have bench's and a V birth but no cushions, carpet ect. After the new boat thing is over I may race if I can find sponsers. I am having the cabin done here locally when I'm done with the boat this fall. Currently, it is very cool down there. Once I get it done I'm sure it be much warmer down there due to the insulation from the cool water temps. I can say now, with a fan it's comfortable even in Havasu 100+ deg.
I would never let anyone ride down below, probably because the way I drive.
Rushin,
Thanks, I'll try Von's over here.
I went to Catalina last Sunday, what a blast it was. The boat sliced those 6 footers on the way back just like JC said.

Thanks for the help. Your boat is definitely cool, and I would love to do a big custom motor build like you did, but insurance might get too crazy. So it sounds like the cockpit is fairly roomy, but lacking in side storage. I definitely wouldn't expect anyone to ride in the cabin much, but on a day of just relaxing I would want it to be able to get a few extra people out to an anchor spot without cooking them alive. If I go with a Y2k I'd spend the money I saved on less bling on a paint job like you see on a Cig Gladiator to create a mini-gladiator look for about 1/4 the price, and with a cabin.

Wow..sounds like fun....well I have just spent the last 2 hours on offshore only..reading all about superboats..lot's of great info...read a lot of your posts etc...just makes me want one more..lol...my buddy is doing the motor for HB. can't wait to see his boat when it is done...sounds like he has some issues with the time line..but I can vouch for the builder he does know his stuff...lot's of experience..anyway getting a little off the subject....love your boat...hopefully i will be an owner some day..gotta get mine sold still first...

Your boat is nice. Should sell. I don't think I could be as pacient as HB. It's going to be over a year. Thanks.

Are you in P5? Aren't you way faster than 75MPH?
K Cooper says I can be competative in P5 but I don't see how. I can only run 65 (for now) and don't think I can keep up with you.
Love your boat, BTW. Nice to see some east coast stuff out here.

Any boat 30' and under can run P5. You need to run the correct prop and rev limiter so you don't break out of your class. I don't think 65mph would work for P5. I was running 70-74 the whole race. My average speed was 72mph. I think they have a P6 class but there is a size limit, I think 25'.
Thanks!:)

Cool! I was in St. Pete a few months ago. There was a sailboat stranded on the beach at that time. Is it still there? Florida is a place to be for a boater. My dad lives there but I guess I'm not old enough yet!:D
