My Chevy gets between 10-12 with 37-BFG's and the Hypertech chip 90hp boost. Towing is about the same but hey it's all about the bling bling.

Kilr - I could tell you what I get with my Dodges, but that's not your question.
Post what variables you have i.e. rear end ratio (get your mind outta the gutter :D ), what size tires/wheel (overal diameter), automatic vs stick, engine fuel chipped or upgraded at all, and how you drive it. Don't forget your driving conditions, hills, bumper to bumper traffic, short grocery store runs, etc.
Oh, I guess you said you babied it.
Post your info and ask the others to post there stuff too, that way you can get closer to comparing apples to apples.

2005 duramax crew cab 5 speed allison tranny 373 rear end gears and its babied.....

Kilr
I have a 2004 2500 HD 4x4 Duramax, but it is lifted 6" w/ 35" tires.
They key to bringing these things to life on power and mileage is as follows:
1. AFE, K&N or equivelent intake
2. Edge Juice, with in cab Attitude Controller
3. RBP, Gibson or equivelent 4" exhaust from the turbo back
This will get you 18+ freeway non-tow and about 14-15 towing, and I am talking about towing uphill 75+ !!!!!!!! :jawdrop: :D :jawdrop:
If we ever hook up, I will have you drive mine and it will all start to make sense. I don't want to imply that you might not have problems otherwise, I am just assuming that you are not.

its interesting.......my 05 SUCKS it down compaired to the 04, I might be getting 12mpg now :( and the 04 felt as though it had alot more power as well. didnt want to spend the money for the edge this time, but I might have too, this thing is slow next to the 04.

This could be the change in motors. Most of the 04's have the LB7 motor and the 05's have the newer LLY motor. Not sure what the differences are, but I am sure a GM mechanic could comment.

Kilr i got the same motor as you and soo far no prob's i will have to check into the deal with the lly and the lb7, does anyone know if the LB7 has a cat on it??

dieseldog

The LB7's have cat's also. I believe they started to put the cats on them in 2002, along with the EGR system. The LB7's feel quicker I think because they "spool" up quicker than the LLY. The main differences between the LLY and LB7 are the LLY has the injectors mounted on the valve covers instead of under, for one, this makes changing them easier, second they went to a closed breather system so if the injectors dumped fuel into the crankcase it would run-away with a closed breather system. The other big difference is the LLY has a Variable Vane Turbo so the PCM can control boost alot more efficiently, if you haven't noticed, theres no wastegate on a LLY. KILR, I think you have a bad injector, take it in and have the dealer check the balance rates, you probably have one out of whack. Are the fuel mileage readings you post from the DIC or hand calculated. I'd expect to see around 16-17mpg. You need an edge on that thing, goodbye to the kitty and a full exhaust.

Don't remove your cat on the lly motor. Your engine light will come on.

dieseldog
03-14-2005, 10:27 PM
Unless you know how to get around that. I can show you more than one LLY running around with no cat and no check engine light.

Hey kilr are you taking into consideration that you are running a larger than stock tire? If you don't have the speedo recalibrated for those tires it will read worse mileage than what you are getting.

So what's the hot tip for running no cat???????

dieseldog
03-15-2005, 07:54 AM
are you asking about no cat on a LLY? The MAF sensor signal needs to be modified. The check engine light will come on with an LLY with no cat, it should set a P0401,P0404 and possibly P0101. These are EGR and MAF codes, because without the backpressure from the cat, it changes the MAF signal and throws the codes. Basically need to trick the MAF a little. KILR, have the dealer check your injector balance rates. Try to find a dealer with a good diesel tech in your area.

Kilr... Don't baby it, the engine cumputer will learn how you drive, drive like you plan on driving it, for the first 5k, I have a bud in the FD who babied his for the first 5k, and ended up having to reset his computer

So what's the trick to tweaking the Maf?
Miguel, my co-worker is getting good mileage on his LLY after his put the Edge on it.

if you go on www.thedieselplace.com and look up LLY and "finger sticks" you will find out how to do it. Basically a guy made up a generic circuit to fool the MAF. It works, I've installed a few. The LLY sounds good with a straight pipe, no cat-no muff. If you're running a program with a straight pipe when you romp on it people will look around for a boeing coming in for a landing.

I ran next to Roxysnow and we talked on the phone... My speedo is way off. by 10MPH.....

they said they had to do a wiring repair at one of the terminals where the edge juice plugs in at......which at first I thought was suspicious considering I drove it a considerable amount of time like that without a problem....but, its been like a month and its running great. They charged no parts on the repair order so I believe them. I have not reinstalled the juice yet.....cant have down time with new job right now....But I will.....Definately miss the juice..although the tranny sure shifts alot nicer now..
