Yeah....the SSMs are pretty beefy.

whats an ssm?He has never got to get the boat to make full speed the guy he bought it from is an ass i hate him anyways.Brother worked for him got the boat for 9k guy told him motor was solid bla bla bla.(this motor use to be in a flat ran very hard and good but some other guy bought it changed everything around rebuilt it,etc) anyhow motor only had 20 pounds oil pressure seller told him that was normal i told my bro (who i really didnt get along with at the time)the motor is probably shot, defintely not normal pressure guy didnt know what he was doing who rebuilt it seller is a POS,motor has a knock so he is pulling out so we can rebuild it right and get it going again right this time.My brother said if worst came to worst he could probably part boat out for 9k does have some good parts on it.Was a project boat that really never got finished then asshole bought it and sold to my brother.

Merc's racing drives (high-horsepower) are designated as Super Speed Master. The later #3's were designated as "3A", with some upgrades (they still make them). I think Merc rates them up to 700HP. All SSMs need a tranny to shift.

The SSM #5 is just a shorter SSM #3A (usually for cats with higher X-Dimensions).

The SSM #6 is the biggest Merc makes.

The only downside to the SSMs is that they eat a little more HP than the (shiftable) Bravos, and they require the engine to be mounted a little farther forward for the tranny.
Sounds like a fun boat.
