(written by Michael):
I was able to visit Madison this morning. I walked into her room to see
the beautiful little girl we all know laying there looking so peaceful
and asleep...and wearing a bikini top! She is breathing much better now
and on her own with just a nose tube delivering oxygen to help. She is
still sedated but looks so much better than even last week. She has
opened her eyes some more and looked around the room. She even looked
at Mike and Sandy last night with a very sad expression and began to
cry a bit. Mike and Sandy were right there with her and were able to
hold her and comfort her. They were all very emotional, but it was a
very good sign. The nurses were even touched by this. She cried a bit
again later in the night when a nurse was combing her hair.
Please know that Madison is still in a sedated and mild "coma-like"
state (not sure of the correct medical definition), and does have some
head injuries that we can not completely understand until she wakes up.
Doctors and nurses have said it could be weeks or even months until she
becomes more awake and aware. These types of injuries are still
somewhat a mystery to even our modern medicine.
Mike and Sandy were told she is now considered a "step down" patient.
Meaning that they do not consider her critical any longer. She will be
moved out of the ICU into the step down unit where she will continue to
recover. The step after that is to get her into rehabilitation.
I want to let everyone know that Madison is getting the best treatment
and care that you could ever imagine. Nurses that are not even assigned
to Madison constantly stop by her room to check on her and visit with
Mike and Sandy. Nurses have requested to be Madi's primary nurse. She
has touched so many peoples' hearts that work with this every day.
Madison is surely a special little girl to so many.
Michael.

Once my sister-in-law went on vacation in Mexico and left their 11 month old baby girl Nicole with me.
That first nite:
I couldn't keep food in her.
She broke into a fever and I rushed her to the hospital.
She had an intestinal blockage growth and the doctors needed to operate.
I couldn't track down my camping in laws.
All I had was a piece of notebook paper giving me power of Atty,, the hospitial wouldnt accept it. They were being impossible hard on's about it.
I launch my boat from a marina where a judge lives and the judge liked to fish in the early hours by the launch ramp.
I had got to know her and did her A/c and refrigeration at her home and businesses.
I called her in desperation and she quickly issued a court order and the operation took place. All finally came out well there. Who ya know and who ya blow.
The point is really:
Imagine being Madi's mom,, in the middle of the night, there in the hospital by her bedside,, your baby in tough shape,, nite after nite,,,
Words can't describe how tough it is what they are going through, and of course, on top of that, what little Madi is going through.
20 minutes don't pass where they don't cross my mind.
I just wish I could do something about it,, make it all go away for them.
