I am just curious to see what rpm you guys drive your boats at. How long do you hold WOT runs at? Whats the average? 3500,4000,4500,etc? Me and 460 jus getn it were at the lake and we were cruising about 3200rpms most of the time. The funny thing was, we kept up to a brand new wakeboard boat at 33oo r's. The guy driving the wakeboard boat was at wot! I usually cruise my olds at 3400r's.

Cruise 3000 - 4000rpms. WOT is 4500. I've held it at WOT for about 15mins at most.(poker run)
Super Ho Hum 455 Olds berkley AA "cut" by Don's.
Last year while on a 8 hr. trip down the Ohio River I found that 3200- 3500 seemed to be a norm for the cruise. Mine opens the secondaries (Qjet) at about 3400 rpms so that is the gas drink'n point.

I cruise my olds at 3000 and sometimes 4000. can hold 4k from Avi to sandbar but with todays gas prices prob stay at 2500-3000. max 47-5000 rpms.

Just cruising I turn the motor 3000 to 3300 RPM. Speed works out to be just about 30 MPH with my regular load of people, skis, coolers and assorted other crap.
I've held it wide open for 10 minutes or so at 5000 rpm.
Boat is a Sanger 20.5 foot Mini-cruiser with an all stock Harman Marine 405 horse 454 BBC and a berk "e" pump.

i generally cruise @ 5000-5500 RPM That puts me in the mid 80's solidly.
WOT is personally limited to 8500, but the motor makes power past 9k and will run in the high 1teens.

Cruise at about 3000 to 3400. WOT is 4900 with a "b" cut impeller. Not a power house, but reliable slightly warmed over high quality parts Ford 460. Can hold wot all day if i want, no problem. Boat is heavy 1975 Tahiti 19' mini cruiser.

Cruise at 3,000 - 3,500. 3500 is about 35 mphfor me. WOT is 4700-4800 in mid 60's. I don't know the cut of the impeller. I've only gone WOT maybe 5-6 seconds max. Is it safe to run them longer? I thought I read on the forums only short burst if you want the enging to last. What the hell is a short burst, can someone define this?

On my old 19' Minicruiser, with the diverter notched down a bit I can hold steady plane at 3000 with the fam and all our crap on board. this is like 31 mph. Gas consumption is very good at this point (who cares anyway). WOT blasts are limited to maybe 20-30 secs with the Nitrous and this is about 71mph @ 5400. Without the sauce, 63 mph @5100. BTW nitrous runs are with just me or maybe a buddy, not with my family on board. Otherwise we just cruise.

Cruis at 3000 to 3500. Then open it up a bit, I will run 4000 to 4500 for a few min. then I let her cool down. the water temp is not up, but I know the oil gets warm.

Once planed out, it'll hold it fine at about 2800 rpm and that's just before the mechanical secondaries on my 660's start to tip in. I used to cruise at 3500 with my Holley 850 dp single carb and dual plane. She sucks way too much gas at that rpm now though.

Probably not. I usually boat Bartlett and the last I heard, it's full of floating crap. Tree branches, bark etc. Pleasant wasn't much better a couple monthes ago, but might've improved some here lately.
I'm sorta in money saving mode right now in anticipation of summer lake trips and gas prices being what they are.
Sure would like to hook up at some point in time though.

I like to cruise at WOT, but it cruises good around 3200, right before the secondaries turn on. WOT is 4700 at almost 60 mph. I have run it WOT for well over 10 min w/ no problem but oil at about 280 degrees.
Floored, if you have a jet boat and are worried about gas prices, this isnt the sport for you :D
Some boats, mostly Olds w/o modified oiling systems should not be held wide open, but with a 10qt pan, rear pickup, fairly low RPM's I feel very comfortable holding it open for 5-10 min at a time. :supp:

We havent tried to run the boat from 5-10 minutes yet. I think I am a little scared to do so. Its a fresh motor and the rings probablly havent seated yet.

I only hold 18 gallons so I kinda watch the consumption. Have gone from willow valley marina to sandbar and back on 1 tank. yes its a jet and I ran from 3k to running back at about 4k most of the way. Gas was cheap then at $1.95 a gallon. :jawdrop: I wont buy gas at any of the marinas.

Some.... :rollside: My 455 has a stocker pan. I'm in the minority with the 15 minute WOT run at 57-58 mph... :D

I cruise my 455 between 2500 - 2800rpms. WOT is 5000 - 5100rpm @ 60 flat. Held it there for about 8-10 minutes...scary

I've been relying on my oil cooler. Maybe I should drop a guage on it at some point.

my honda runs 285 degrees oil at near full throttle all day long. i was worried until i realized the only reason i was worried was i had installed a guage to see what i wasnt worried about before. good oil is good for 300 degrees, am i right?
confucious says: if a motor cant handle full throttle then why does it have full throttle?

Thats lovely. Low rpm's= longevity on the motor. I would like to build a big blown motor that would max out the hp at 4500 so that I could cruise at 2400. That would be very nice. You could hold the throttle wide open all day long without a worry!
