Frenchie, check with John at Ultra, I am sure he can point you in the right direction and answer some of your questions. I think it is a single motor application only, but the hull is pretty efficient if I remember correctly. Are you not considering a 29' Shockwave if bigger with a mid-cabin is what you are wanting or looking into ?? Wait till you see mine on the water !! :D

I was considering this boat and was waiting for John to send me pictures on a mid-cabin/open-bow model, but we got all messed up in communications because of him getting busy at SEMA, losing his PDA with my contact info and such. I think for a single engine application, it is probably one of the nicest out there and I like John's work, gel, customer service, etc...
I decided on the Shockwave, because I ultimately wanted twins to go "Big Blue" when the mood struck and it was just a little bigger. Oh and the wife said,"We are buying this one" !!! :hammerhea
All kidding aside, I thought about Howard, DCB, Ultra, Dana and probably a few others that I can't recall at this time and when it came down to wanting twins, the decision became chrystal clear.
Pricing all comes down to negotiations. You can get whatever you want for whatever you can afford and negotiate. To tell you the truth, I think the builders for the most part are slower this year that last, and if you are serious, you could get a pretty screaming deal right now from someone. I know (I think) I did pretty well on my deal, because Barry kept getting distracted looking at my wife in a pretty hot outfit while trying to come up with the numbers !!
I did quite a few things different in my boat that I don't think they have done in many of their 29's, as far as gauges and such go. heck, I am still tweaking things on a weekly basis every time I go out there.
Long story short, 28' single = Ultra, 29' twin = Shockwave
Now of course Howard and DCB make GREAT boats, I just could not get them to the pricing level that I thought made sense to me personally.

For me personally, I don't think that many of these 28's, which could be 27's with a step will be much more boat than what you have now and probably won't justify the added expense. The only reason I did not buy the 27' Dana, is because it didn't seem big enough to substantiate the additional expense and the mid-cabin size and height was not to my wifes liking, as I would suspect it might be on some or most of these in the 28' size.
All personal preference, but when Mrs. INSman says, "I want more HEAD room", what guy in their right mind argues with that ?? :hammerhea :2purples:  :D

I was told around 120k for the 28 Howard with the 525. But If you are looking for a larger 28 with more room inside you may want to look at the DCB. The 28 Bullett with a 525 runs right around 80MPH depending whether you get the open or closed bow.

Frenchie,
I spoke with John at Ultra last spring. The 28 Stealth is available in twins but they have never done it. At the time, twin 496 Mag HOs would run you $114,900 and twin HP500s would run $144,900. The maroon Stealth, John's personal boat he built for himself, with the HP3 525 runs 75+ mph.

Frenchie--I bet that John West would be willing to make a pretty sweet deal just to have a Great customer with a first time project like a twin 28 Stealth. John's great...and get twin HO's (BoatBling will love you :) )
As for the Howard, a fully loaded 28 Howard Bullet with the MidCabin bowrider, a 525, full hydrolic steering and triple axle trailer will run you a $120K. Talk to Gene and tell him you know me...he may take it down to $119.9K :D :rollside:
Its definately a bad ass boat, one that loves power and will handle anything. You need a ride in one for sure. Contact GT on the boards--I just rode in his 1100+ hp 28 Bullet last week at the Powerboat trials--very stable and rocket fast to 106...with plenty of room to go. One test ride...and you'll understand the price and quality.
With that said--definately talk to John at Ultra. I think that project would be great--plenty of Mag coverage, and he'll probably hook you up (as he does everyone else).
Good luck-

Howard w/525 at $120k is absolutely correct, without tax that is..
I was close to getting this boat, but wife did not like the size of the mid-cabin in comparison to the 29' SW, and I wanted twins for the ocean. The Howard is not tall enough to have full drop-down seating either, it is more of a quazi jimmy rig type deal. Still a very nice boat, and if I was going to do a single engine, it would have been that, Ultra or the DCB for sure !!!!

I was looking into upping my SW Tremor to a SW29, Sunsation or possibly the Ultra (Burgandy one). I thought about it and decided to put it off for a while. Partly it was due to the boat not being able to fit in my exsisting garage. That problem should be solved this year and then I will revisit it.
I just thought that the Ultra had a very small cab area compared to the SW29. I will definitly consider the Sunsation as well as the SW when the time comes again.
I went so far as to list my SW for sale. Even if I had the room for the new boat I wouldn' sell the current one until a new one would be ready. I have no desire to be boatless while waiting.
I found myself looking at the Sunsation as well, but since I live on the West Coast and prefer to have a tight relationship with my builder, they were out of the question. They seemed to be an upscale production builder at best.

 cant be that bad!!?? and if those motors will put the boat in mid 80's i can cruz at 70-75, which is what i have to wot now to see!!! ;)
You are right about that. If you aren't going to be at WOT all the time twins can be efficient for cruising cuz you don't have to run them as hard.
But we know how you do it. :hammer2: :hammer2: :hammer2: :hammer2: :D

Yes I got the E-ticket with twin HO's although I have been told to get the 525's by some people in the biz. We'll see. It will probably take about 6 months to be built. 4 if I'm lucky.
Frenchie, One of my friends just told me his buddy was getting the 29 shockwave with twin 525's. Sounds like a nice set up.
i thinks i know of one being built...looking at about $140k-$150 for that setup...and Barry says 92-95 m p h!!!! now thats a dream for me!!!!

There's 62K in motors & drives in this setup... you can shave 30K if you go with the HO's... BTW that boat that was just completed was fully loaded, cabinets, Dana tabs, scissors, "S" pipes, etc...etc...
BTW, Kilrtoy at you could say hello to us ex family members occassionally.. :)

I know I'm a little late to the thread but damn it would be nice to finally have gotten you into the Ultra. :D Seriously though, I know you have some issues with a certain couple of fellas so if someone didn't say it already then PM Ultra28 or call 619-443-1100 and talk to John West directly. You will be glad you did.
