A little good news for your PERS retirement... for now anyways.
The Governor cancelled the petition to reform the retirement plan and will search different avenues for the savings.
This was on the AP today... look for it.

That's good news. Especially when he has Ca. Police Officers with him and his family everywhere they travel. Take care of the hands that take of you

How was the plan going to hurt your retirement? Didn't it start in 2008?

I can only agree with what Kilrtoy has been saying. Arnold has been spreading his political agenda in a way that the general public can only look and see what he wants them to see. When he tells Mr. and Mrs. John Q Public that these firemen and police officers are retiring at these high percentages and they are sitting at home on a fixed income only collecting a small precentage of what they were making, it makes the public mad. We have given up raises and other contract benefits to negotiate for better retirement packages. As someone mentioned, yes the new retirement system would create a second system for new hires after 1/2008, but it is still outr job to protect the future of the fire service and police force. If I could work until I was 65 being a fireman, I would. But after 10 years and being 30 now with 20 more to go until 50, I do not think I could last in this position for an additional 15. Firemen and police officers already have a shortened life span and statistics show most firemen do not live past 7 years of retirement. With increased safety factors and improvements to gear, etc., I hope to live much longer. I just do not feel good about a leader who wants to rob from a system to pay for his errors in judgement. Sorry this is so long winded-too much coffee!
