By a feeler guage inbetwine the impeller and warering lip asuming you have a liped warering. Then set it at what ever the shop you bought the rebuild kit from specs.

Sometimes it's hard to use the feeler guage. Use some clay and torque to your specs, then remove and mic. Do not move the impeller when you pull it back off, as it will distort the clay and give you a false reading.....Doug

I got my JG together tonight and I have like .028 thats less than a 32nd of play. I had the lipped wear ring but at the moment I'm low budget. SO I got a standard wear ring. I still have the shims. Iffen I need em.
I didnt add any shims to the rebuild. It seams to fit fine with out them.
But I'm no pro. Alot of people here have helped me out. Good people here.
Bryce, did you go with the lipped wear ring?

Remember that your front bearing has a lot do with your front clearance. If it is old, there might be some play. That play will directly effect your clearance. Just something to think about while setting up your pump...... Doug
