I have a question for you... Our boat up here at Powell has a Coast Gaurd registration number. With this, from what I'm told, we don't need state registration as long as it is operated on Federal waterways. Is this true,, and if it is, Is Lake Havasu considered a Federal waterway??

Frome the USCG website...
"IS A DOCUMENTED VESSEL EXEMPT FROM STATE JURISDICTION?
No, all documented vessels must comply with the laws of the state in which they are operated. The vessel's document must be shown to state law enforcement personnel upon their demand. States may require documented vessels to be registered (but not numbered) and to display state decals showing that they have complied with state requirements."

Just found the answer your looking for.... I found it at the AZ DMV website.
Boating Questions
Question
Which boats must be registered?
Answer
All motorboats must be registered in Arizona regardless of their size, construction, or type and size of motor. This includes, for example, inflatable rafts, sailboats and canoes with motors (including electric motors). Exceptions to the registration requirement include watercraft used solely as lifeboats and those documented by the U. S. Coast Guard.
So Mardonzi, if your boat is Documented with USCG, you do not have to have AZ registration. Hope this helps.

The following is needed for us to accept the USCG Documentation.
1. Current (not expired) original (not photo copy) Official Document.
2. Official number properly marked on the interior of the hull.
3. Name and hailing port displayed on the stern (or other area depending on the hull design)
4. Document in the name of the current owner. (Documentation is not transferable. It is VOID when the vessel is sold.)
If any of the above are not present, we are to consider the vessel NOT documented, and take appropriate State action.
This is per the Coast Guard's instructions to us.

Thanks, we are legal then,, We just changed the mooring from Bullfrog to Wahweap last year. The parkies have never said a word, but we were curious if we would have any problems if we took it to another lake.

Good info there Boat Cop..... it always helps to hear it straight from the horses mouth. It's good that people are making sure they're legit before they go out.
