You may or may not have noticed that my wife has been unusually quiet lately. She's been under a huge amount of stress because of the following.
1. Our son, Scott (14) got sick. Swollen liver, spleen, lymph nodes. Docs think it's Mona, do some blood work and take 2 weeks off school. After 2 weeks, not mono, and not anything normal. Doc starts to worry, makes specialist appointment 3 WEEKS OUT because symptoms are same for LYMPHOMA (blood cancer of sorts). We're all feeling the pressure for a while on this one. Sweated it out for almost a month and finally got word from the specialist that it's probably just a weird virus and that he's gonna be just fine. WHEW! I don't know what I would do if he were to get that sick. He's my little (not so little anymore) life partner and I can't bare to think of that senario.
2. Deb's had two back surgeries, the last one was a spinal fusion that took 11 hours of surgery and 3 years of recovery. Last week she found out that the doctor want's to operate again, and he's pretty sure this won't be the last time. So it's pain meds and heating pads for us again. She's going to wait till the boating season is over before she's going under the knife, but this is certainly one more chapter we didn't want to have to write in our lives.
So, basically it's been a rough couple of months for us. Not so bad on the scale of things, but enough to take a step back. Since all this happened she's been steering clear of her laptop so she can concentrate on other issues, but I'm gonna try to get her back on, it does seem to make her happy. So this is fair warning to you all...lol

I hope you get through your trials and have a great summer on the river with the rest of us. There is something to be said about getting in the boat and getting sun and friends around you. I think it will make for a good escape for both of you.

Thanks everyone, I'll pass along all the good wishes. It'll make her cry :cry: for sure...(maybe hormones will come into play, who knows).
I've said it before and I'll say it again, this forum group is like our extended family and the outpouring of caring and camraderie coupled with the sincerity of our members has always amazed me. How do so many people from so many walks of life come together under one common intrest to find out we're all so much alike...scarry really :skull:
I've been checkin in a bit here and there, haven't been able to spend too much time going through the threads. I"ve kept up on one or two, especially the thread about little Madi Battles. What a great recovery that little girl has made so far. Reading that thread puts a lot of things in perspective and reminds me of the movie "Grand Canyon". Life's little problems are so insignificant when compared to real ones. This is a minor setback for us, and we'll recover well and soon.
We are absolutely looking forward to seeing you all on the water this year. I think I only have 1/2 of that pallet of silvers left from last summer :rolleyes:
but you're welcome to them anytime.

It is nice to see you back Deb. It's good to see your son is doing better, and I am confident he will be back to normal with the next CT.
Sorry to hear about your back, I feel your pain, and I'm waiting for my third surgery. I have been through quite a few of the epiduals, and have never gotten any lasting relief, just more pain. Good luck with your next procedure. Is it going to be a micro discectomy?

Thanks, we are ok now, just a tough couple of months....Scott is doing better, he goes to school now.
The doctor wants to do a CT in about a month to be sure his spleen and liver aren't enlarged any more...also that the lymphnodes in his belly have gone down, (they were swollen)
I just got over the flu, my back hurts, but I'm sure it will get better...
I need to decide when to have the surgery, we have boat trips all summer, but my work would like me to have it during the summer. I don't think it will take me as long to get over the opperation as last time....it's just a diskectacmy(sp)
Just can't wait to feel that hot wind in my hair on our boat :D

Matt/Deb;
I figured something was up with your back, but had no idea what you were going through with your son. I am glad he is okay.
Deb;
I am still waiting for my back caper to close. Had the diskogram, there is more stuff wrong than they thought. 3 discs completely dessicated. Looks like a twin artificial disc surgery and then a single level fusion above it. And more later as I get older.
I don't want to do it until summer is over either. Our son is supposed to get a month long leave in July, and I'll be damned if I am going to be laid up all summer especially while he is home...
Hang in there you two...

Debbolas
04-16-2005, 01:21 PM
That is what I had done in February of 2002. I was pain free for a few years, and then this disk blew up. A three level spinal fusion, took me a few months to recover from. I had to learn to walk again, with a walker. I'm glad I did it, but I'm not looking forward to this tiny little operation.....
My advice to you is it wait until you can no longer stand the pain and then have the surgery.
Good luck...

Oh. :( I'm sorry to hear things have been so stressful. I'm glad your son is going to be okay now. Sucks about Deb's back; pain can make stress more difficult and seems to feed into a cycle. :yuk: I definitely noticed Deb's lack of postiness and have been missing her very much. Completely understand why she's been MIA now. I hope things lighten up for all of you in the near future. If Deb doesn't read this herself first then please tell her hello from me, that I miss her and I'll be thinking about her. Hope the next surgery is the last one and it fixes whatever is hurting. :clover: :) :chi: Be nice if she pops in to post when she feels up to it. :cool:
