No, not to the water jackets.
On the D3VE-A2A heads there are small cup plugs to block off the emission passage to the exhaust ports on each end of the cylinder head.

I concur, there is no freeze plugs in the heads, on BBF.. If you have early heads there wouldn't even be smog plugs!!

Thanks guys! I was wondering what the heck those were. They had some crud behind them, is that normal?
Thanks,
Steve
P.S.
Where can I get my boat smogged?! http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/happy/happy11.gif
Just a joke for CA folks.

Steve, crud is normal. Just exhaust soot. Drill and tap for a NPT plug and never look back. All those things do is corrode through and start ticking, pissing you off, cause you can't figure out where that damn exhaust leak is coming from, to the point of homicidal rage. Well, maybe not that bad but they are sometimes a pain in the ass. Hope we all helped.

If you dont tap them and want to just put plugs back in, go to NAPA and ask for 219-2188. That is the .666 plug that fits the head, they are sometimes very hard to find because of the odd size.

Thanks for all of the help! I was a little nervous to be honest.
Now for my next question......How hard is it to swap out the timing chain set on that 460 'o' mine? I have no real experience with the Ford mill so I might really be a pain in the A** for a short while.
Thanks again,
Steve

It depends on if the engine is in the boat and what type of motor mounts you have.
If you have 4 point mounts then you will have to lift the front of the engine to remove the mount bracket to access the timing chain cover.
With 3 point mounts I think you can remove the timing cover without the hassle of the engine mount bracket in the way.

Timing chain is easy except for the fact that the timing cover is also part of the pan seal. Felpro makes a nice little "stub" gasket set for the cover so you don't have to remove the oil pan.
