I hope this kinda stuff is rare :jawdrop:
Police continue to chase down leads in the murder of a Canadian tourist as details of her life emerge.
Lt. Joe Archie of the Lake Havasu City Police Department said on Wednesday that the department has "conducted dozens of interviews over the last week from witnesses."
Archie noted that they have developed a few leads, but "nothing definitive."
No suspects have been publicly identified yet in the murder of Barbara Irene Kalow, 45, of Ottawa, Canada. According to investigators, Kalow was in town on vacation when she was found dead in her hotel room by hotel staff on April 5. She was last seen alive by hotel staff at 8:40 p.m. April 4.
An autopsy confirmed the cause of death was asphyxiation by force, leading police to declare the death a homicide.
Archie believes that this was a crime of opportunity and that Kalow did not know her killer.
"It's not somebody she knows," said Archie. "We think the suspect may have been after her car."
Police first became suspicious after it was discovered her rental car, parked right outside her room, was missing. Kalow rented the car, a silver 2005 PT Cruiser, in Las Vegas on March 26 and was due to return it on April 7. Hotel records show she checked in on April 2. The California Highway Patrol found the car abandoned in the northbound lanes of Interstate 15 on April 7.
Police have processed the car and have been working with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police who searched her home in Ottawa.
Kalow was a veterinarian working for the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. She grew up in Toronto and had one brother, Peter.
According to Barbara's mother, Brigette, the brother has come to Lake Havasu City to claim the body and return it to Toronto for funeral services.
The mother indicated Kalow would be cremated.
According to the family, Kalow often traveled by herself and there was nothing unusual about this trip.
"She wanted to see the flowers," said Barbara's mother. "She loved nature."
Archie said Kalow did nothing to attract attention to herself during her brief stay in the city and that conversations with the family indicated she was frugal and not likely to spend extravagantly.
Anyone with information about the case, or who may have had contact with Kalow, is asked to contact the Lake Havasu City Police Department at 928-855-1171 or the Havasu Silent Witness at 854-TIPS (8477)

Yes it is sad... very sad.... :frown:
If they brought back public hanging with a gallows, to hang by the neck until dead, it might possibly curtail horrible actions like this. One reason why everyone should carry a side arm, IMO. :frown:

Possibly, but what happens is they will look for a while for the person and then something more important comes along and then that file is pushed aside...too many people get away with stuff like this...IMO (keep in mind I am not an officer of the law and I don't know exactly what happens to these cases, this is a matter of opinion on what it seems like happens)
