Need Help with water pump impeller change

Hey guys. A friend of mine is wanting me to change out the water pump impeller on his 97 XP300 evinrude and I was curious to know if there is anything special I should know? I have done a couple of impeller changes on Bravo and Alpha outdrives but never an outboard.

The last year of the 300XP was 95. Under the carbs is a shift pin that must first be removed then seven bolts to remove the unit, 1 is the trim tab bolt for access

Thanks for the info racer. I guess I mistakenly assumed the engine was a 97 since the boat is a 97 Liberator. Thank you sir for the information. Do you have a recommendation for a certain type of lower unit oil?

Trim it high enough that you can pull it all out, its a bitch holding it up and yelling to get someone to trim the motor up so it can be pulled from the engine...................( . )( . ).......been there done that! :cool:
