I am shopping for a 23' boat and came across this custom boat, however I am a newbie and have heard this boat called by several different names.
Q1. Anyone know what this is called? I've heard it called by these names:
a. Tunnel Hull
b. Modified-V
c. Modified-V Tunnel
I need to know for insurance purposes.
Q2. Also want to identify the original hull if anyone know's the history.
I've heard this called an American Extreme, but heard the hull came from an Eliminator lates 90's model. Looking for someone who knows the history.
Q3. How does is wakeboarding behind this kind of boat? I am not looking to go pro, but just looking to do a little wake boarding for fun and want to know if this is going to be:
a. Crappy
b. Decent
c. Good.

Thats appears to be an eliminator 234 edge, it would be a MODVP

I've read really good reviews about the ride and also bad info about the ride. It's hard to tell which is right.
I've thought the responses are possibly like a guy in a Ferarri telling you a corvette rides like crap. From his point of view it does, but for those of us who don't know what a Ferarri rides like, it may be a really nice ride. It's not any clearer on how this boat rides, after reading the post. Nevertheless, I still welcome anyone's feedback.
I found these threads and thought i'd post them for others looking for info on this boat.

From the looks of it ,this would not be the best for Wakeboarding. theres nothing but the centerpod to push the water out so you will get a small choppy wake. compared to a mastercraft ,ect....nice boat though, good luck.

The Modvp hulls will not work very well for wakeboarding because the wakes are very small. If you like to Slalom then you will love this boat. The wake behind our stoker is flatter smaller than the wake behind our Nautigue. The boat will hndle chop very well and turn on a dime. The bottom is similar to a Stoker.

I don't know exactly what you are looking for, what your budget is, but I can tell you this:
My 23' DANA, if for sale, has less than 60 hrs, is absolutely immaculant, has a 496HO with 425HP and will fly comfortably at 70+MPH, was built to accomodate a "Phat Tower" for you wakeboarders, has trim tabs to get the boat on plane at lower speeds and throw off a nice wake, and has (2) of the best write-ups, both in February of 2005 by ***boat and Powerboat.
I have the boat insured with Progressive for less than $700 per year. I will include a spare prop for more low end towing/skiing/wakeboarding and you will love this boat.
Just hit the cover of the Boat Trader on Thursday and people are calling and some coming by to see it in person. First $46K takes it !!!!!!!

I have 2 new v bottom openbow boats for sale. I can rig them with any power you desire, and can 'custom build' to your specs. I can say that they have the same bottom as the Dana pictured above, and the boat will run well with any type of I/O power. 53 mph with a 250hp 5.7, Bravo 1, 72 gal fuel, custom trailer, thru bolted rigging, stainless fasteners, bimini top (SS), everthing except a stereo, $39,999.00 plus tax and license. New all warrantys and Merc extended available. More power?= More money! Have built these hulls with 1013hp and have had no problems.

That just what I get every time I talk to someone about Howard, DCB, and such. They are ALL depreciating assets, no matter what. They just seem to be getting more expensive to build these days !! :jawdrop: :D

The hull your looking at is a MOD VP.. I have a Stoker.. its a similar bottom. These hulls are very efficient... Some are better than others.. They are very friendly and as a rule they are generally fast with minimal power.
Before I geared mine down I was able to wake board and ski NP.. I had no problem creating a large wake.... But a V bottom may be a little better..
If this boat is of interest to you .. Take a look at the Stoker 224 .. its a little over 22' and would be considered the best by many with the Mod VP hull. If you have any other questions or want to go for a ride before you make a decision let me know.

JackPunx - My account is not fully activate... guess I need to contact the board admin. Anyone know an admin? I never got my confirmation email to activate my account.
Anyway, call me at 909.908.0431. I'd like to talk about your boat. I am set on getting this boat, just want to talk to someone who already has one. Gonna drop a deposit on a new one this evening. Really want to talk with you.

If its an Edge, it would be considered a mod VP but other than sharing that that in common I would not say it is similar to stoker.

Yep, it's a MOD VP allright...looks kinda like my 22.10 Lavey Craft nobody really heard of in this thread...
I don't have a lot of seat time in this one yet, but loved the first trip out after the 496MAG re-power.

BTW, that hull is a MOD-V made by a company called Extreme Marine i believe. They use to be located off the 15 in Corona and I don't think they are around anymore.

Did I have the name correct? :hammerhea
Where in Riverside? Is that the only hull they are making now?

Isn't there a BIG YELLOW building just outside Barstow (at the 15 and 40) that says EXTREME MARINE on it? I've never seen a boat out front.

there is....
I've wondered for a couple years what/if they did there...

I am not sure about a shop in Norco, that might be American Extreme (who I think is out of Business).
With Extreme Custom Boats, I've only seen his 21 and 23. He's got a few other molds, but I only looked the 21 and 23.

The only thing that I've ever seen outside that building was a sleeper trailer. It wasn't there when I drove by this past weekend so I guess they finally sold something. Other than that, I've never seen a boat there and they have had a new 28 V hull banner hanging there forever.

friends of mine had a 23' eliminator tunnel. It porpoised really bad at low speeds.

What exactly does porpoising mean?
