I don't know what type outboard guys you have raced but thats strange. Most jet boats I have raced don't want to run out of the gate but from a punch at about 35mph I guess that way their pump is loaded. Anyway, you would be surprised what a 153 cubic inch dragonfly motor could do. Big block jets are cool, but you need lots of horse power to out run an outboard in the 1/4 mile......Uncle Tony

To all the jetboaters in here, I will tell this story again. I was on the holding rope in Bakersfield with Lamar Shaw. He drives and races an outboard in the 10 second class. I asked him who Barney was and he just laughed and tisked in disgust. He told me that Barney is a bucket mouth wanna be that is third rate at best with the real outboard guys that run fast. He said he is a coat tail rider, that nobody likes. That is coming from one of his own so what does that tell you!!!!!!!!! Must be a nice life to be clowned by your so called friends Barnster

If you go through the first gallery you will see several Bass Boats with stickers all over them. While they maybe fast there BASS BOATS. I think one of them was even a "skeeter."

As far as working on motors - YES! Believe it or not outboards require maintenance! Especially if it is a hi-perf motor! I have replaced 3 pistons this summer already! I have pulled the power head twice and the lower unit so many times I can't remember!
I like big blocks. They DO sound great, but most of them don't go very fast! I have NEVER seen a jet boat run an outboard from a dead idle. Why? Because that is not their strong point. Just like outboards don't want to race jets from a 35 mph punch, because the jet easily out-accelerates the outboard! Of course there are exceptions to every rule, so if this does not describe your boat, I apologize. I guess I would be guilty of STEREOTYPING!

I have to tell you that UT and Wickey are not one and the same. I know them and I know that they do not mean ill will. Just trying to have a little fun while promoting a party that has been and will be. UT has a very fast dual stage nitros setup tunnel and the Wickster? It's an Allison in the triples. Now to the metal flake part. Allison has never put metal flake on any of their boats, even the bass boats. I have had two of these so called bass boats and I'm here to tell you there wasn't much laughing going on @ Havasu or Laughlin when I was there. I am an exhydro owner driver and I do love the sound of a good BB but it has been my experience that most ( not all) of the fast one have to be towed to the line as in from the bridge to the bar. The exception to this are the big cats. They are a little different story, but they cant compete in a 1/4 drag race.
My point? Hell I forgot. Oh yes. Weed wackers as you call them can do both with a simple prop change. A vee drive can too with a gear change. Buttttttt, I honestly dont know what it takes for a jet. I'm not being a smart ass (yet) I just dont know much about jets.

I know very little about jets, but I can't imagine that it would be more than a simple impeller change. Same as a Weed Wacker or a V-Drive or an I/O. I still don't understand why people get so riled up about propulsion choices. I can understand why nobody likes a clamp on http://free.***boat.net/ubb/smile.gif, but whether it be a jet or v-drive or an I/O seems that it would fit to what ever your application.

Most of the reason for my outspokeness is to effect your memory and to have fun. There has been more than a few occasions, I have been able to manuevere my boat in front of someone and give them a chance to read "Barney" on the back of my motor. We have had some tremendous laughs once we meet, that's what it's really about. Finding more people who like the same things, so we can all have more fun with more people.
If I see a boater down, I stop, motor never comes into play, same team.
