Talked to our harbor master at Lake Mead yesterday and asked about the current level, up 20' over the last few weeks, but now has started dropping again, 1' he said. He told me they have been allowed to hold more water at Lake Powell. So far, Lake Powel was down another foot to -144. When does the snow start to melt and feed the upper basin?
Boating on the lake was awsome Saturday, but Hemminway launch ramp was a disaster. Can you imagine in April, the crowd was fairly large, and a lot of boaters who haven't learned the first rule of courtesy, would pull their boats barely out of the water and proceed to wipe down, unload/etc. A total Chinese fire drill. Not a ranger in sight to help get control. Wonder what the summer will bring...

Just read (the link below) where S/W Utah is bracing for possible flooding due to (in places) 372% of average snow pack :D
Hope that helps without hurting those downstream of the melt.

Powell is actually up a foot over the last week. Average outflow is 7200 cfs and inflow is 13000 cfs. I'm not sure what the snowpack is around Brian Head, but there is definately more than average. All that goes into the Virgin River drainage,, and then into Mead.

It will be nice to see our lakes get back to the levels we have all learned to love. Sometimes you don't know what you have until it's gone.
