I am leaving the Boeing/Mcdonald Douglas company after 18 great years. No more 166 miles a day round trip, no more swing shift. I will be 39 miles from home and on day shift. I hope the family can stand having me around. Since 1989 I have driven 680,000 miles back and forth to work. That is 27 times around the world, or 5 cars. My last day here is June 1st, so on Memorial weekend if you see a grey haired guy with a sexy lady stop by and have a drink with them to celebrate.

Congratulations to you  it will be nice to be home early
I know the pain, 184 miles round trip to the office, then more for work. I have many days with over 300 miles :yuk:

Not sure the exact plant but we have 6 large cranes down there right now taking down a track crane thats inside one of the hangers. Is the plant shutting down?I guess this crane is the one that can lift the planes up when they are being assembled?

The was the crane that was used on the 717. The last one rolled out on tuesday or thrusday of last week. We have went from over 60,000 to 6,000 employees since Boeing bought us back in 1997. I used to operate that crane.

Sorry to hear that but also congrats on working closer to home.Being closer to home will be a major relief to you hopefully.Freeways in this state are just stupid anymore.
I was supposed to be on one of the 6 cranes down there but had jobs to do on another crane instead.

i work in aerospace manufacturing also. i work at gkn aerospace-chemtronics and also spent a little time at senior aersospace-ketema. you were making quite a commute. i hate the swing shifts. i have been bounced around working all different hours its a stressfull and demanding field to be in. im sure you will be much happier without that commute especially with the gas prices these days.
