Just my stupid question for this week. I went through the Drive-thru of my local Starbucks this morning and ordered my usual, when I pulled up to the window to pay my $4.30 for my cup of coffee I noticed a tip jar, should I or shouldn't I be tipping on a cup of coffee that is overpriced and that took the barrista a total of about 45 seconds to make? I have always considered myself a very good tipper, I usually leave 20% if the food and service is good but I don't think I should be tipping on something I am getting at a Drive-thru that is already overpriced. What are your thoughts and opinions???

Depends...was she good lookin' or was she a :2purples:? Actually, if it's a big order, I'd tip. If it's "the usual"...forget it.

Tipping is offered for good service isn't it? I rarely tip at a drive thru, but will drop my change in sometimes if they are nice and quick...

No tipping at a drive through. Never have. Never will. Their wages aren't based off of tips.

You still call that place Starbucks? Everyone I know just calls them FourBucks.
There is one in my building at work, and I am glad I don't drink coffee, or I wouldn't be able to afford my boat payment.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one that feels this way, I just wondered if I was doing the wrong thing by not dropping the change from my fiver in the tin, afterall, that change buys me a 1/4 of a gallon of gas that I just wasted sitting in the line... :D :D

I did that the other day with some left over beef jerky and a gernola bar that was in my car.
As far as starbucks goes Screw them. Getting tips or even asking, for doing their jobs? Stupid. I have to give gift cards for getting peoples business after doing a good job and servers want tips for putting food in a bag. My friend was telling me the other day that his girlfriend is going to get a job bartending and she makes anywhere from 500-800 bucks a night at one of the indian casino's. Am I just an A hole or is there something wrong about that. My wife graduated from U of A with honors and makes no whare near that kind of money.

The whole tip deal has given employers the idea that they can pay people less, because they figure tips in when they consider an employee's compensation. It's just wrong that everyone has their hand out.

I've never seen that except at the local Taco shop....left some small change before just so I didn't have to carry it around...otherwise NOPE.

Do you tip housekeeping at hotels? I never have, it's their job to make up my room. If I do ask for anything special, which I never do, I'll be inclined to leave a tip for doing what I asked. But otherwise, fuggetaboutit.

The only time I put money in a tip jar is if I have been going to the place for some time. It also has to be a mom and pop place. I won't tip at a chain store if they have a jar out. I personally think it has gotten out of hand. It seems like everyone has a tip jar out there!

If you have to put a "tip jar" out, ala Starbucks, Coldstone, Subway, that should tell you that tips aren't part of the job. And I'm a good tipper, 25-40% at restruants.
Ditto on that.
Plus, Someone stated it, tips are not part of their compensation plan. They do not get taxed based on their sales like a Waiter/Waitress or bartender and etc. do. Infact, Waiter/Waitress or bartenders and etc. can and do get paid less than minimum wage....legally, because of the tip revenue.
I bartended for a few years and made really good money (Senior Frogs in San Diego)......the only problem was that was a totally different style of life, and I always seem to spend my money or loose it gambling at 3 AM while drinking pitchers of kamikazes.
Until they get taxed on sales, I won't ever tip. I know the Starbucks employees actually take some verbal beatings from customers a LOT more than say Subway. I saw a lady flip one day at Starbucks because they were out of Soy milk. They are catering to high maintenance people addicted to caffeine!
Side note: Is it me, or do you immidiately think a guy is gay when he orders anything other than coffee from Starbucks? It really is just not macho to walk out with a double fudge blended frappacino with extra carmel & whip cream(and drinking it out of a straw)! Half the time I daydream about tripping the guy on the way out and have him spill his little girlie man drink! Did I say that out loud?

LOL....I should have put a few smilies on that last post to make it less serious.
:rollside: :rollside: :rollside: :rollside:
I remember a comedian doing a bit about how trying to be a tough guy while drinking out of a straw. And what would be worse is if the guy was gay and kicked your ass.

Ditto. usually 20% or better. I tip well but would tell ms., mrs. or mr. starbucks etc. to get f*cked fast...
I tip at restraunts, bars and anywhere somebody is actually going above and beyond like while at work. A few bucks here and several there goes a long way. Seeing a "tip" cup is an insult as far as I'm concerned. :lightsabe :eat:

Do you tip Chewy at Mcdonalds and if the answer is NO, then why would you even tip at starbucks...
I only tip if they are serving me food and drink or drinks ....
Not for taking my order at the register...

Last week I saw a guy with a dog, gets to me too. I ran to the store, bought a small bag of dog food, some moist food in pouches (in case he was really homeless and didn't have a can opener) and some chew bones. Gave it to him without the store bag/receipt so hopefully he couldn't take it back and trade for booze, etc! Not the most practical thing, but I had the time to do it. I have great hopes the dog ate well for a few days! Sorry, a little off topic
