Just ordered a Lavey 21 XTski with 496 mag. Any tips, suggestions on xtras/options that should be done ahead of time? Stereo, prewire, guages....How was your experience with them?

Great choice imo and welcome to the Lavey family. Be sure to make it to the regatta you will have a blast. As far as options get everything you could possibly want now instead of later, one would be trim tabs. Congrats on the new ride we love ours. Heres a pic 24 Nu Era 496 Mag HO :D

I'm not much into skiing/boarding, Think the trim tabs are necessary?
How much more performance does the H.O. give? Is it worth the money?

That was my deal. I wanted to step up the motor from base. Started noticing slightly used boats with one or two steps up on the motor, with trim tabs, hyd steering, huge stereos. I was looking at 22-25s for $55K or less. Ended up with an '01 30' w/HO and nice stereo, elec drop bolsters, 3 axle disc brake trailer, for slightly less! 130 hours! Plus, no sales tax. It's nice to get a brand new boat, but I got a lot more than my $55K would've got me new.
Haven't driven a MAG, just the HO. You're safe, though. If you want more later, you can add the RAYLAR kit - 100HP, to either motor. :D

My lavey was pretty much loaded, it was made for the boat show in '04, the only thing missing was an hour meter. They put one in after I asked, but I have read of others who have installed hour meters after picking up a new Lavey.
I just added a wired remote for my stereo, I put it right below my throttle. The remotes that come with most stereos dont work well in the sunlight, or when someones leg is in front of the head unit.
Have fun with your new boat...Laveys are top quality.

The HO was a 5000.00 upgrade and 50HP on my 24, with my boat I am glad I did it. It also came with a beefier outdrive as well. IMO the 21 and 496 mag is a great set up. Trim Tabs are worth it regardless of boarding or skiing, your boat has saddle bag tanks, more prone to uneven loads, tabs will help level it out. Also in chop you can trim the boat down and the outdrive up for a way better ride it willl take away the pounding or porpising. People that have never had tabs dont get it untill they put tabs on a boat, then they get it. I am looking at tabs right now for mine, should have done it from the get go.

Welcome to Lavey,,, DO get tabs, you don't need em but is a GREAT luxury, and DO get the HO, you don't need that either, but it's nice having the extra power when some foolio runs beside you and thinks your boat is slow...Just hammer down and that boat will run hard with the HO.
Later,
Frank

Excuse me for jumping into a Lavey thread, but I plan on putting tabs on for wake-boarding. She is just not quite on plane at 20-22.
I WISH THE ORIGINAL OWNER HAD PUT THEM ON DURING THE BUILD.
For one thing, I would be using them already. Second, now I have to purchase them and do the install. Would have been nice if they were on already.
Even if you only need them once or twice while you own the boat, they will be a selling point later on. Money well spent.

The lavey 21 is a great boat. You will get just below 70 (gps) w/the 496 HO. The only thing I would add is the offhore throttle and the electronic fuel switch. I loved my Lavey and think they are one of the best riggers out there.

Welcome to the Lavey family!!! 21 XTSki is a great boat.
Here's the build photos of mine (http://rivertoys.com/LaveyMeAlone/index.htm). That was two and a half years ago. It's been a great boat for us!!!
Here it is just two weeks ago...

They are pretty much loaded up from the start. I had the steering wheel upgraded, the off-shore style shifter, IMCO fuel tank selector and a few trailer upgades. If you're not doing a big stereo now, but will later, you may consider prewireing and having them build supports for an amp rack into the boat. It'll help you later.
Hope to see you at the regatta in Sept.

We had our 21 Lavey XCS for just under a year - its the other 21 sitting on the showroom floor! We already took delivery of our new 26. You will not go wrong with it. The 21 is a good sized 21. We just wanted to do the ocean thing with our other Lavey friends so we were fortunate enough to upgrade. Things that we added to our 21, an aqua-step/swim ladder, pre-wire for some subs and amp, and a wired remote. We had the 6.2 and wished we had the extra HP, so you'll be happy with the 496. Talk to both Jeff AND Chris. They both have excellent opinions. If you haven't already picked your gel, ask Jeff for a stack of old magazines to help. I looked thru 50 and I somehow ended up with flames! And, new boat, same flames! I just love those flames! Good luck and welcome to the family. Hope to see you out there!

They will do whatever you'd like. I can't speak for everyone, but I personal specified that I wanted the color to stop at the edge of the bottom, and not wrap under the boat at all. It was my call. I think it looks better. I've seen other boats (by other builders) with color continueing under the nose, but I don't like it. Esp with my flames.

Congratulations and welcome to the family! We have the same boat with a 6.2. Remember the little things, like a drive shower, transom trim switch, midship cleats. The offshore shifter is really cool. The most important choice beyond power may be the interior...we left out the jump seats and went with the wakeboard storage instead. The hatch cover is extended an additional 18" or so which gives you a deep storage well that runs the whole width of the boat from hatch to deck. Its plenty big to house wakeboards, chairs, etc. plus the engine hatch is mush longer so there's more room for sunning - or other stuff...
Jeff and Chris were also great guys to work with! :D

I had a 21XTC and put tabs on it so I didn't have to tell people where to sit, the boats very weight sensitive. They also made it a way better ski boat. I also like the offshore engine mounts so the thing never goes out of alignment. It's one of the best 21's built, congrats.

Check out Mandelon's boat, It has really clean graphics (the best, I think). It also has the 496 HO. The 21 is a bigger boat too generally wha tthe other manufacturers are calling a 23.

I'm sure they would do whatever you like. Was just curious as some of the best gel designs, and execution of said design, I've seen have been on Lavey's. However, IMHO when there is so much white at the front, when there is a non-white base color, it detracts from the looks. As an example, the 2750 Poker Run edition that was in Powerboat a year or so ago. Yellow base, awesome graphics and color combination, looks silly with all the white towards the bow. But, that's just my opinion.
