So, here is the deal from a friend of mine who just went down to the channel. Coming in to the channel from Thompson Bay ~ 100 yards on the left is cordoned off no parking. Then a little further up, the same holds true for the right side. Apparently they are alternating the no parking areas. My friend did not walk the whole channel so he is not sure if it is just in the narrow area or if it extends all the way to the bridge.

The 100 yards on the left is where most families pull up to let their kids play in the water, etc. Not to mention the fact that it is some of the best sand (no rocks).

I own a small plane here in Havasu and will take some pics from it when the channel is full of people on Saturday, it will be interesting to see the mobs in between the signs. I'm usually up cruising the lake and river anyway, maybe some have seen me, I'm usually very low and slow in a red and white Cessna with My elbow hanging out the window, I allways wave back. Look for Me around noon. I'll post the pics Sunday morning.
Ok, I'll post one of sandbar too! May as well.

I don't get it. They close off 100yds of the channel right in front of the playground equipment, an area where mostly families like to hang out away from the the mayhem deeper into the channel. When we hang in the channel, that's where we like to hang, beach is nice and sandy.

I usually am giving someone a ride so I go down the lake, around the dam not over, the length of the strip, down through Bill Williams river where the canyons are spectacular, back up the lake, sand bar and over Topoc on up to the Laughlin area for a landing for grub at the Riverside.
Some time I just cruise around, there is so much to see. I wish I had floats on it.

I think we all need to find another lake to have fun.
Laughlin's Lake Mohave's Cottonwood Cove
Phoenix's Lake Pleasant
Las Vegas's Lake Mead
Page's Lake Powell
The problem's seen at Lake Havasu have to deal with Public access and public intoxication on big weekends.
4% are violent when they drink.
30% are rude to other's when they drink.
20% Drink way to much.
30% Drink moderately.
15% have no business being at the lake and drinking (underage)
1% do not drink
100% are trying to enjoy the lake, but can't.
I enjoy having 5-6 beers at the lake, but I can't enjoy them on the big weekends at Lake Havasu anymore (Memorial weekend 1988-2000). I'm glad they closed the Sandbar and Copper Canyon on the big weekends and I hope the City of Lake Havasu closes the channel to boats as well on the big weekends. It makes my decision to not go to Havasu a lot easier, and go elsewhere.

the problem is so many people are trying to have so much fun. everyone has found out about what used to be our little secret. it started with closing copper canyon, then the sandbar. then the federal parks regulations at mead and powell, then the no water issues at mead and powell. plus powell is in the middle of nowhere. if you think our restrictions are heavy go to a federal park like powell or mead. lake pleasant is okay i guess, if you want to go boating in a bathtub with the rest of phoenix. it would be cheeper on gas! maybe we need to start our own place to go on havasu. maybe we can pressure BLM to making a nice beach area where we can pull our boats up like in the channel? maybe we can just go a little farther south of thompson bay where the PD (city) has no jurisdiction. copper canyon was restricted by SBSO, sandbar was closed by MCSO, city is looking at regulating the channel... so lets go to a different place. Steamboat has same problem at copper canyon unfortunately. Gridlock. where can we go? can we find a better place. again I'm new to the forum but not new to havasu or boating...

When flying over I cant see the pasties (Moneypit) but I can in fact smell the two stroke stink when the air is calm.
The actions taken in the channel are in no way temporary (dimarcobros) like the sandbar and copper for the holidays, it is this way every weekend, it's done and the city will never admit that they made a mistake.
FYI, The forcast for this weekend is very hot with no wind, a perfect recipe for CO closures. Nothing worse to me than seeing a smoking Seadoo cruising through the channel.

That's not what causes CO as CO is odorless and colorless. But yes, it does suck to see those exhaust plumes.

HS, the Isles are the condos on the island side of the channel as you exit at the North end. They have a private beach for residents only.

I can see Thompson Bay so full of boats that you won't be able to even make it to the South entrance of the channel (ala Copper Canyon during Spring Break). I bet the LE's will like that. Sometimes you create a bigger problem trying to fix a problem.

I'm still at a loss. Let's assume that there are a bunch of under age kids at
the lake drinking. Let's assume that there are drunks driving boats that
shouldn't be. How does closing 50% of the channel solve either of these
problems. The drunks will now be out driving their boats rather than being parked or idling around in the relatively safe confines of the channel. The
underage kids drinking will be out on the lake drowning? or doing whatever
drunk kids do. What about the girls flashing their chests? The city has never really wanted to solve this problem. There was once a suggestion that a $1,000 reward be paid in cash to anyone able to provide photos of a bare
chested girl in the channel and the accompanying boat numbers. Trust me,
if they had ever implimented this little game, it would have cost the city
about $3,000 the first weekend and noone would have dared flash ever again. The city obviously did nothing so my conclusion is that they didn't
really want to solve the problem.
Another thing, if we kick out half the boaters from the channel, don't we still
have to deal with all the "walk-on" people who are the main problems in the
channel anyway? Just a few thoughts....

Ya just gotta sit it out. Typical "shotgun" approach. Blast everyone to get rid of a "problem". Next season, it will probably all be forgotten. All will be back to normal. They just want to send a message that it could all be over and the channel would just be foot traffic.
If everyone just holds it together this season and obeys the rules, LE will lighten up. It doesn't mean they won't snap to it if things start to go out of control. They will just get tired of hammering everything afloat and relax.

I always felt that having the people that patrol the channel could hand out 1 hr parking passes. This would mean that "Johhny drunk lake lace" will have to approach the officer (or whomever) every hour to get a pass (being sober would help). This would also allow everyone to use these spots. It also limits how long people actually moor there.
I know it sounds like alot of work, but it would deter alot of drunks while allowing people to use these spaces.
Just a thought.

Being my Condo backs up to the channel, trust me the walk ins are the problem. The city has allowed the landscaping of the park to go to crap with overgrowth that is a public toilet/hotel room/pot smoking area. They allow the building of the four story buildings that block the view of London Bridge from London Bridge Park, and also prevent air flow (genius decision :hammerhea ).
The "non-mooring" areas will simply become super party areas like the "Sandbar". I can see huge crowds in those 100 yard spots with beer bongs, stripping, and other "non-family" public park activities that they are trying to prevent. The whole thing is insane. Most of the folks who are too young to drink, tend not to be boat owners. LHC needs to pull their weight on fixing what they do have control over, and enforcing the laws that are already on the books to eliminate the criminal problem in the channel.

It seems to me that they (city of Havasu) wants the ability to write tickets to people that can afford to pay them (boaters) and are responsible enough to pay for them. How much you think they can make of a 17 year old punk with a minor in possesion or a little pot charge?? Not much. Hit the boaters. They have the money. Maybe everyone can get together and buy some lake property in Havasu and start their own beach with rules for boaters by boaters. ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

you guys are commenting only on the "no parking" signage, but they just
might impose a "no occupy" for the area as well.......... if not, their theory
will backfire big time since now there will be an open area for gathering
without boats hindering the amount of people in the area..... kinda like the
sandbar but in town instead..........

What constitutes "beaching"?.....can you anchor 3 feet out? :hammerhea What a mess. No mooring....then what about beaching?
Found this on RRL:

English Village owners are up in arms about portions of the Bridgewater Channel being closed.
According to city spokesman Charlie Cassens, 27 percent of the available moorings, approximately 200 spots, in the Channel were closed this week per direction of City Council at their May 3 work session.
However, items brought up at work sessions can not be voted on and Councilman Don Clark is wondering why his suggestion to reduce the number of closed moorings was not considered. He wanted the issue put on the May 10 regular meeting agenda for a vote.
"They've closed the east bank except for a tiny section," said Mike Sabo, owner of London Bridge Ice Cream. "No one's going to walk all the way from Rotary Park just to get an ice cream."
Clark said he had notified Mayor Bob Whelan of his wish for more discussion, but the issue was not discussed at the May 10 meeting.
"There was no vote taken," Clark said on Friday. "But I guess they thought it was a consensus and I thought it was coming back for a vote."
Clark had suggested a less restrictive plan that only would have affected around 15 percent of the available moorings.
Capt. Randy McCaleb of the Lake Havasu City Police Department said this particular issue didn't require a vote, which was why it already is being enforced.
"According to city ordinance, the city manager has the authority to restrict the amount of moorings in the Channel," he said. "We simply took our direction from council."
City Manager Tim Ernster said he had been down to look at the signs and thought it was a little more than anticipated.
"We certainly don't want to hurt our businesses down there and we'll be taking a look at this at the next City Council meeting," he said.
Mayor Bob Whelan said the current signs are not necessarily permanent and that the City Council would be reviewing the new policy at their next meeting on May 24 to decide if any changes need to be made.
Whelan also said the new policy only was meant for weekends.
"There was not an intent to restrict (moorings) during the week, just the weekends," he said.
Ernster concurred, saying the signs will either have to be changed or covered up and that the restrictions may only be for busy holiday weekends, or on an as-needed basis.
"I've been down there on a Sunday when it isn't too congested," said Ernster. "We may only have to set it up on days when it really gets congested."
"It's going to affect all of us," said Sabo. "It already has, in fact."
Tom Felke, co-owner of Shugrue's, said he consider the Bridgewater Channel part of the Lake Havasu City experience and that having Channel activity is part of the charm.
"If it's a health or safety issue, I have no problem with it," said Felke, "But there's a lot of markets competing for tourist dollars and we don't want to do anything to upset that."
"It's killing business," said Sabo. "We're going to be dead."
Whelan said City Council would be taking the concerns of the business owners into account at the next meeting when the policy is reviewed.
The moorings were restricted as part of a two-phase plan recommended by the police department to better control an increase in outrageous behavior that has caused a rise in arrests, noise and carbon monoxide in the manmade waterway.

I'll be at the next council meeting telling them that thc CO in the channel made me woozy, the wake from a 36'+ boat knocked me down, and seiing the girl in pasties made me hit the ground hard. All which led to my current back injury, and subsequent back surgery, and they will be facing an upcoming law suit.
Just trying to help. :D

Ya think.....??
