Please help - I have a 98 Merc. 200 carb motor. The volts started to read 14v at idle and 16 plus volts at 4000 rpm. Does it have some type of voltage regulater and if so where is it located?

I had the same problem on my 02 300x. It was the voltage reg., which on mine is inside the alt. New alt and i was back in business. You might try finding a alt shop that can test your and, rebuild it. New alt was 410.00.

SS, I believe the regulator is on top of the engine on the 2.5. Check above the 1,3,5 bank.
