Well its time to get a new truck! After riding in the back of my 04 ranger all the way back from Bullhead i have decided i need a bigger truck. I have a 6 month old so i need some room and my ranger cant pull my boat. Im looking at new, full size, maybe crew but definitly ext cab and i need some input on v6 vs. v8. Of course i want the v8 but cant i get away with pulling an 18ft spectra with a v6?

Get the V8, you will get better gas milage towing with the v8 since it won't have to work so hard to pull your boat, less stress on the motor as well. With your kid being so small, you can save by just getting an extra cab, my kids are 7 and 6 and are still confortable in my Silverado extra cab.

Take your boat loaded with all your gear and fuel to some truck scales, unhook it from your truck, pay the 12 or so bucks to get the weight and add 20% then take that information shopping with you.

Any 1/2 pick up will do fine. or even a half ton suv. A F-150 or chevy/ dodge 1500 would do nicely. You can get them with 4 doors... just make sure you get the "tow package" its not just a hitch.

I have had an ext cab silverado and i do think it is enough room but i think im gonna try and swing it to get the crew. Prblem is im not sure i will really need it. As for the towing my boat is stored in Bullhead and its about a mile to Davis. I dont think i would be dropding anywhere else very often and service will all be done local by SquirtnThunder.

If you are that close, then get the small V8, the Silverado 4.8 will get you 20 MPG on the highway. The crew would be nice, but that only comes with the 5.3 V8 I think.

In all reality, how far do you generally tow your boat to the lake, and what else will you be pulling with it? Deisel's are great, but unless you're pulling many miles, the gas range is not much better than a V-8 around town. The added $3000 option for the HD deisel would be worth it (in my opinion) if you used the truck for other business/pulling/working. If your boat is the only thing you end up using your truck for, the 1/2's are probably your road. I have a 04 Ford 150 and have been pleased all the way around.

Yep, and if i had 50k to spend 3k would go to a old skool tow truck and 47k would go to getting me in to DILLIGAF's 25 Tremor!

Ford/Chevy??? Ford/Chevy!! thats all I hear (ok, 1 person likes dodge from what i read)
But, have you considered Toyota. It will sure last a whole lot longer than Ford/Chevy/Dodge, and they come in the crew or ext cab. I tow a 24' boat with a Sequoia 4.7L V8 pushing 285hp and have no problems. I average 14-20 city/highway. I would not go with the Nissan Titan, I have heard to my bad things about their brakes chewing up rotors in 15K miles.
If I did not need to run a SUV I personally would roll the F250 (I'm kinda partial to Ford myself) but I have 3 kids all in car seats.
on a side note... we live near Richfield and Orangethorpe in Placentia. My 4 year old goes to the school on Imperial and Rose so I usually stop in that 7-11 2-3 times a week. Welcome to the neighborhood.

If you are looking at GM, try to hold off for the remainder of this year. New body style coming out for 2007. Never good to get an old body style as they are phasing them out. Takes away resale right off the bat.

Titans are a heck of a truck and the brakes issues have been resolved since the late 05 models.

I had a 21' Cheetah that I pulled with a 2000 Dodge Dakota Crew Cab 4x4.
The truck had a 5.9l V8 and pulled the boat like it wasn't even there. Plenty of room for my 2 kids in the cab. Would have kept it but needed something bigger to pull the new boat.

Everyone is going to have an opinion, but here's some info to put things into perspective..
I tow a 23' boat with a 496. I've got a 2004 Tahoe 4.8L with 22" wheels on it. It does the job fine. Next time I'll get a 5.3 at the least, but the 4.8L does fine pulling it.
Doh...but then again, I've got Magnaflow Muffler, K&N Air Filter and a Hypertech programmer to offset the power needed to turn my 22's.

1/2 ton will do just fine for you. When it comes to brands, Ford, Dodge, & GM all build excellent trucks. I'm partial to Fords because I like their looks best and I have always had good luck with them. I'd say drive all 3 and pick which one you like best. I'd get a four door with a V-8. I have a four door F-250 and with kids it makes hauling them around much easier. Good luck with your search for a new ride.

Unless you need a truck with a bed to haul some useless items , why don't you pick an SUV . Any of those with a V-8 will tow your 18' spectra like it's not even there . Finding parking is a lot easier too ;) .

The bigger back seat and larger rear door is worth the extra money to me, if you have small kids. I used to have a extra cab F-150 and it was a pain in the ass to get the kids out of their car seats. It's so much easier with a true four door.

look for used v8 trucks, there are plenty out there that im sure are in your price range. don't waste your time with a v6. Any ford/chevy/toyota with v8 will pull appx. 75oo-9200lbs.

You need to go for a Ford F-650 and have some crazy assed graphics that make everyone look at you when you drive by.
.... not because you need it to tow, but because you want everyone to see how much better you are than them and how worthless their meager little lives are.

My F-150 (5.4) might be able to pull 9200lbs, but I sure as hell wouldn't want to try stopping it with that much weight. Especially on a hill or mountain.

You need to go for a Ford F-650 and have some crazy assed graphics that make everyone look at you when you drive by.
.... not because you need it to tow, but because you want everyone to see how much better you are than them and how worthless their meager little lives are.
LMAO!

Well i did it! Thanks to everyone who gave me input. I ended up getting a 04 f150 super crew lariat with 27k miles on it. It has a sunroof 6disk in dash and 8in sub under the rear seat. 5.4L with tow package, bedliner and leather seats. It also has the shifter mounted in front of the center consule instead of on the wheel. An alarm and the numbered keyless entry. Steering wheel stereo and air controls and an electri drivers seat. Audio back up assist and wood grain interior panels. I paid 20.5K for it.

You cannot beat a Ford truck, no matter what, the numbers do not lie. They have been the # selling truck for a LONG time. Plus they do not get as dated looking as fast as the chebbys. :)
BTW: I am starting a chebby website, "chebbysdown" or something like that. I see ATLEAST 2 chebbys per day on the side of the road. I saw a guy today with a brand new 2500 HD, still had the dealer plates. He was standing on the curb talking on his cell, while the driveline hung from under the car touching the street. :(

Hey Trump I sent you a Pm:
I have this on Ad this weekend.
06 F150 Supercrew, 3.73 LS, CD/Mp3, pwr windows lock, tow package, 4.6L V8
Sale Price: 24,975
Ford Rebate: -3000
Down Payment Match: -1000 (Must Finance with Ford)
XLT Ford Credit Cash: -1000 (Must FInance with Ford)
Net Cost: $19,975 I have two silvers and two dark shadow greys left.
Umm versus 20.5k for a two year old truck with 27k on it??? I think you got a good deal if it is the perfect truck for you!!!! I do believe that I would've gotten a two year newer truck with 0 miles on it for less money and a full warranty but that's just me!!! I'm glad you found something you are ahppy with though! Btw chris I will post some pics of the truck soon. Im putting the 12" swing down steps on it next week so that other people dont have to JUMP up into the thing lol. (It is entertaining watching my girlfriend do it though!!!!!!!) :crossx: :crossx: :crossx:

gqchris is the man, I think you paid a fair price though. The 5.4 is the way to go, that is what I have, also the two package (air suspension) rocks, I have it also and it levels out the load nicely.

Do the shocks automaticly inflate?
