We went there about 6 times last year, had a great time :cool:the year before the water was to low and never took the boat up there.
This year should be good, when or if the wind kicks up we head into Kernville and have some fun :rolleyes:

If you come from the 14 side, your life would be easier.
I know big rigs do the drive, and big boats too, but there are some places the walls are very close to the road. The 178 is a narrow 2 laner.
At 70%+ Capacity, there shouldn't be any problem with hazards, everything is pretty deep.

29' is ok if the water remains high :idea: and Sean is right, take the 14 if possible, the Kern River route from Bakersfield the mountain is close to the road :jawdrop:

Take the 14N to the 178W. It's easy on the east side of the lake!

I think Rich likes to camp at the Dam campground. Is that right Rich? If Rich camps, you could leave your boat there, and come down the valley to stay with us each night. Or something along those lines.

I say tow the boat, leave it at the lake at Rich's camp (if he does), and come down the valley with us. Prolly you too Dan! It's not a big house, but it's small :D

Your kids are awesome! They can play with my - I mean our friends kid's army men.
I have a ps2, but they can bring xbox or whatever, we'll have a tv for them. I have plenty of MX videos for them also. Dia always has plenty of toys for the kids to play with.

Yep, both the hotel and steakhouse are still open but if you want real good prime rib go to Ewings in Kernville or head up the canyon to McNallys...McNallys has the best food by far in the Kern Valley.

Which way is Paradise Cove? We've come up the Kern River from Bako to the Greenhorn area several times, and stayed at the now inundated campsites along the south rim of the lake. Coming up the 178, do i go towards Kernville, or towards the dez?

Southside again, go towards the dezert....
Past the dam campgrounds, the road will rise up 100' over the lake, around a few corners, you will see the restaurant on the right, and the Paradise Cove campground on the left. Maybe 3 miles past the dam.
Depending on the direction of the wind, it's a nice place.

was there 3 weeks ago..... very windy all afternoon and evening.... the mornings were great.... Water level is very high.... the parking lot in Paradise Cove is underwater...... nothing like parking your motor home in a foot of water........ kinda cool. :rollside:
