I am looking for a set of tall Two piece valve covers for a Chevy BB with Gil Off Shores exhaust manifolds. I have Jesel shaft rockers running a solid roller cam. My dilemma is I need to remove the exhaust manifolds every time I want to adjust the valves. I have a price from CP of like $450.00 this is absurd price. Anyone buy a set cheaper?
thanks

Mike,
I have the same problems, though I'm probably not doing lash adjustments as frequently as you since I'm running a std hyd tappet cam. None the less, it still sucks to have to pull the exhaust to get to the valvetrain, even for inspection. I was thinking about calling Keith Eickert to get a price on their 2 piece setup. YOu can reach them at 386-446-0660, or on the web at http://www.keith-eickert.com
Hope that helps,

Mike,
A friend of mine had spacers machined that fit in between the headers and heads. He only needed to make them about 1/2" wide to give enough clearance to remove the valve covers. Then you can use studs instead of bolts to secure both together. It may cost a bit for this at a machine shop, but you may know of a good machinist that will give you a break.

Thats not a bad idea Jungleboy!
I know that a BBF to BBC conversion spacer runs 100-150 and its about 1/2" thick. A straight BBC-BBC spacer is easier to make and should theoretically be cheaper. Oh Superdave.... http://free.***boat.net/ubb/smile.gif

I'm using a set of the B&M covers, which are no longer produced by B&M but (I think) are the same as the Hardin covers now sold by CP. Yes they are expensive but worth it for what you're getting. The bottom section bolts on permanently, and the top half is sealed by a large o-ring, so no messing with sealer goop every time you pull the covers. They are stiff and have nicely machined mating surfaces so they do not leak. The bolt holes for the top half are drilled at an angle so everything lifts straight up to clear the exhaust. The $450 price is the polished version. The satin finish is quite a bit cheaper. If you have valvetrane hardware that doesn't clear the normal "tall" marine covers like IMCO, etc, then these two piece covers are the answer. By the way, good luck finding a better price from Eickert. From what I've seen, his stuff is nice but really pricey.
