By John Gutekunst
Friday, April 28, 2006 5:50 PM MDT
Traffic on the Parker Strip was diverted for several hours on Friday after the discovery to two suspicious items which turned out to be pipe bombs.
La Paz County Sheriff's Major Steve Biro said the bombs were found at approximately 9 a.m. in a construction project off Business Route 95 near Marina Manor and Lake Manor Market. The Sheriff's Office diverted traffic around the scene, and the Arizona Department of Public Safety bomb squad was called in.
The bomb squad removed the bombs and took them to an unpopulated area, where they were detonated. Biro said the sheriff's office is examining the remains for any evidence they can find.
Normal traffic flows had been restored by 1 p.m.
The buildings are five condominium units with garages, The bombs were found on the driveway of one of the garages.
Biro said the sheriff's office has reason to believe the bombs were placed sometime early Friday morning. They are asking for the assistance of the community in finding those who may have placed the bombs. Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or who has any other information on this incident is urged to call the La Paz County Sheriff's Office at (928) 669-6141.
