Dose anyone how I test a Mercruiser power steering unit to see if it's working correctly. The boat seems hard to steer and I know it's not the cable because I disconnected it and the wheel turns freely.

Give me a call and I will tell you what to do and how to check. Most likley it is not the pump but the steering assist assy at the transom. It would take me forever to type it all. Neil (619) 698-9605

My assembly at the transom was leaking and just had it replaced. The steering is smoother now.
Are you losing any fluid.
