View Full Version : How can you guys stand the noise?

I took my ride out without the engine cover to check things out while running. I must say, things are LOUD without the engine cover. http://free.***boat.net/ubb/rolleyes.gif I had to go to the bow to get a little bit of peace and quiet. I can't imagine how much noisier the other boats would be since (a)the engine is closer to the driver on smaller boats, and (b)most of you guys have blowers and what-nots on your boats. http://free.***boat.net/ubb/biggrin.gif I can see that they are bad ass boats and I'm sure they (almost) fly. But, how can you guys stand the noise? Or maybe I'm just getting old. http://free.***boat.net/ubb/wink.gif

These boat was built for a guy not a girl who can't stand the noise. That explains wht Mr. water cop is always pulling us over he's actually a little girl inside who can't stand the noise either (j/k)

The faster you go the farther behind the noise gets. Doppler effect! Or is it Dopeler? Or rather Doper? Or maybe just Doobie!

Hey everyone not for nothin but I LOVE the sound of a big HP engine up in RPM and I've been around them in cars and boats, and close to them for 35 years. There is nothing like the sound or feel of the the HP, heck at times it even tickels my ear drums. But that is the problem, over time you start to loose some of your hearing, I know as I don't hear the same as I used to. Think about it... You can fix your engine but can you fix your hearing?

The sound comming from a basset open header is the mating call for women. When they hear the roar from the two chrome pipes they alwayws look for the sound. Then they look for the stud making the noise.Last but not least they look for the guy thats ssss, sssss, pppp, ppppp, iiii, tttt, iii, nnnn' the rooster. The ladies like a real man that can make noise and spit'!

You're right, I can't stand the noise but I still love the boat.
Here's my solution.

Interesting!
Looks like handle bars or some sort of ramp for a waverunner. Have you ran that thing that way?

I got popped for no baffles (I live in California). I went and bought them and when I was bolting them into my pipes, I felt like I cut my penis off. I wish CA was not so friggin rule crazy. I kind of liked it when everyone in the marina had to stop talking when I started up.

That's good, It does look like a ramp for a waverunner. http://free.***boat.net/ubb/biggrin.gif Yes, I've run it and it's great,
Nearly silent when Idling along (except for the blower whine) and a LOT quieter planed out.

Nearly silent when Idling along...
If I wanted a boat that was nearly silent, I would have bought a canoe. Nothing like the smell of race gas in the morning and the "quiet purr" of a set of bassetts off the open water.

I was wondering, with that much in the water, and no support but the welds on the header itself, wouldn't it be a problem with vibration on something that long and unsupported and with the force of the water pushing up against it, or when your on plain (depending if it's in the water on plain.

Randy if you look back at the pic it looks like it is secured in the transom some how.

Is that seat always sideways or is it just un-bolted?

The bottom pic looks like it is in the transom that is what I was looking at but if you look up at the top one he has a plate welded between them.

Or a guy who took "Dare to be Different" a little too far.
No offense, but why not just run through transom or perhaps be inventive, maybe even make some cash from a patent, and have it come through the bottom of the hull?

Unchained... I know you got some bad ass toys, but I gotta be straight with you when I say that those pipes look like you lost a bet or something. You must really be trying to get on your wife's good side.
Or... he had a ton of stainless pipe laying around and got drunk! http://free.***boat.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

Holy smokes, that looks like a plumbers nightmare! Perhaps you could cut off about 2 feet of the last part of those things, and bolt up some Flowmasters!By the way, we can't let the Cali lawmakers see this or else we all might be getting some welding done... http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/rolleyes/rolleyes08.gif

Disco, When I first had the new pipes tacked up thats exactly what I thought http://free.***boat.net/ubb/biggrin.gif
Now I like the new look.
Actually some lakes are not allowing OT exhaust now because of the noise. Eventually major noise reduction steps will have to be taken by everyone. I know a guy who clamps flowmasters on the headers of his flatbottom. It looks awful but it is quiet.

I had to take the OT pipes off of mine, the lake we go to most requires through hull. It is kinda stupid, you can be as loud as you want(no db laws) as long as it is through hull, but you would get ticketted if you had a completely silent OT set up.

That boat looks like a wheelbarrow.
