Who hoooo i just brought home my new boat. Its a 72 campbell 20'6 v drive cruiser. I went to Atascadaro to pick it up today!!!! Its a little rough, needs paint and my 454 out of the old boat. Im going to keep it stock just pop the freeze plugs and clean out any of the sand that the jet might of sucked into it. Its still got plenty of life in it with just 215 hours on it. Im going to Paint it again and then put it in the campbell.
Question for anyone who can give advice on props? A friend has the same boat and he runs a 14/14. I m wondering if i go with a 3 blade or a 4 blade shaving off some of the top end for getting out of the whole quicker? any advice will help!!!!
I just sat in it out infront of the shop and had a beer and cant wait to get it to the river. My first vdrive cruiser whoo hooo!!!!!!
Any one looking for a project boat i have an old SKV for someone who has the money and the time to work on it. Let me know!

Nice boat, congrats! My dad and I have been Campbell guys for a long time now, he's owned three and I'm on my first: a 1971 20' we just finished.
You've already got full-length plates on yours, which is nice. Most have little mini-plates with a 14" gap in the middle. We went whole-hog on mine, let me know if you have any questions. You should try to get your boat done by the Campbell Regatta, which is the weekend after Labor Day. Always a good time.

I saw you on the 101 S freeway on Saturday in the afternoon. I was coming home from a Taikwondo tourny in Oxnard. I saw you right at the 101/134 split...you took the 134(I think that was the split). I was in a white Ford 1 ton 12 passenger van giving you the thumbs up. I woke my wife up to check out your Campbell.
Good luck. I have my 20.5 Campbell for sale in the spam section. I am going to try to take it to the Campbell Spring frollick or what ever they are calling the outing this weekend in Havasu. That 20.5 is a nice boat....but not the nicest riding boat!
Good luck!

BTW - I run a 12x15 prop with 27% gears in a casale split case with hd gears. Motor is a 502 and made about 600 hp when it was fresh. It was running in the mid 60s (gps) at about 4600 rpm until I put baffles in it and lost 1000 rpm. I am pulling the baffles out and will put turn downs on it (if I keep it that is). The motor is 11:1 and idles at 103 db. I think 92 is the limit on older boats.
I was also going to try my brothers prop that is an 11x15 with no cupping to see if I can get a few more RPM out of it and perhaps a little more nose life/less tail lift.

The props you are running and talking about running are ski props for tourny ski and wakeboard boats. They will work well with good hole shot, but will tend to bury the nose at speed as the surface area will create tail lift/nose drop. But, they are silky smooth.
I like to deal with Jim Wilkes when it comes to v-drives/props, but I know quite a few on here are Menkins fans. Jim had my campbell hitting 80 mph+ with the old blower motor that made roughly 750 hp. But, he did it with a high rake 2 blade that shook your teeth out at lower speeds. We dialed it in at just over 70 mph with an all around prop.

Congrats on your new/old Campbell. Last week I launched my new/old 1959 Campbell Runabout. Bought it last month from original owner (47 years...one owner!). Mine runs a 14/14 3 blade with an old Buick Nailhead 401, my first post so be kind! I'll try to upload some pix.

It is funny that I saw you because that is a part of CA that I get to every 5 years or so.
Those props will definitely work on you boat and will work well up to 45 MPH or so. Great hole shot, very smooth, and great for pulling skiers and general cruising. I like to push the top end a little more and have the ability to shut down the average jet boat on occasion.

Thanx all for comments, OrangePicker, yes was in Havasu for the last 10 years or so, Mr Kahn (of Kahnjob fame?) yes, was on consignment at factory but I found it in the Boat Trader then bought it sight unseen after talking with seller (widow of original owner) and Gary at factory.
Hey Jeff, I have an extra 14x14 3 blade (really old school but perfect condition) if you want to try a prop before buying. First time wet last week, some overheating issues, but rides like a big old Cadillac and you guys would not believe the comments on the ramp! Is Campbell Spring thing this weekend? If so, no time to resolve heating issues, will wait for Regatta this fall. Thanx again guys!

Hey Carl,
Kahn Job is my dad, Dave. He and I built my 20' together, but his current ride is a 32' Spectra, also called Kahn Job. The Spring Roundup is this weekend... bummer you won't make it, but it'll be great to see the boat in action at the Regatta!

Jeff,
If 454 coming out of Campbell and 454 coming out of SKV, why not use the manifolds/exhaust that are already in the Campbell? Yes, the motor faces the opposite way but I think the existing Campbell exhaust should bolt right up, no? Maybe I don't understand the question/issue.

Welcome to the Family!  from one '72 to another! I've driven ALOT of different boats on the River and NONEof them compare to the feeling of driving a Campbell!!! :D :D

Yes the manifolds are reverseable, so you can install them with either end facing the front or back.

Hi Carl I am Jeff's girlfriend Christine. He is out of town for the rest of the week but he asked that I respond to you about trying out your prop before we bought one. We would love to take you up on the offer to please email me so we can discuss this more.
Thanks!

Hey thanks for the offer Campbellcarl, that is very nice of you to offer. I have another question, what determines the right or left hand? Is it based on the rotation of the motor and if so isnt the 454 turn the same direction no matter what direction its posistioned in. Man so many new things to think about with a VDriver!!!
I was just checking out the regatta info and its for the weekend before the boat races which is cool.
Thats cool that i dont have to get new exaust for the boat and that i can use the stock logs that i already have. I dont have the deep pockets like my bro ole meanstreak mike has :)
We will see everyone at ming this weekend!!!!!!!!

Nice boat Jeff.
My pops told me you picked one up. I'm bitter you found one before I did. I'd love to come take a look at it sometime soon.
I have a line on a 21ft spectra vdrive minus motor and trans i'm going to go take a look at early next week.
