If you are going on the river launch at Davis camp accross from the casinos on the AZ side. Leave the casinos, cross the bridge, take a left and Davis Camp is right there on your LH side. Gets crowded there but just go up/down the river to ty to create some space. If you are going on the lake go to Katherines. Hopefully if you are going on the river it is during the week. Weekends are pretty crazy with the jet skis.
Thanks. As a matter of fact I am going Thurs Fri and Sat of next week.
I think I will head up to a lake, water is warmer and less of a current for the kids.

You can launch several places up and down the river….
There is a camp ground right across; up river from the casinos that has an “ok” ramp.
There also is a park on Bullhead side, across Harrah’s Del Rio and then of course, you can launch from Avi and Needles.
Remember, the “river” constantly changes and the depth changes as well. Usually, during the weekends, they let enough water out to satisfy the boats. Use extreme caution regarding the “lice” they are usually weekend renters and have no clue about boating safety I saw many Paramedic calls right in front of the casinos over memorial because of sheer stupidity. Make sure you have a full tank of gas; however gas is available at the Topoc marina. I have gone from Laughlin to Havasu, London Bridge and it was an all day event but we did float down river for several hours The Gorge is cool as well as the sandbar.

I just launched at Needles Marina last w/e and it was a piece of cake..easy to find, nice ramp, no crowd. Wish I'd a done that before. Used to launch at the Avi and hated dealing w/the current. The ride from Needles to Topock was great/no worries.

I think I will stick to the lake, for the kid's sake. How far is it from the hotels to Katherines' landing? Any idea on fee for launching? I will be there next thurs and friday, wondering how busy it might be and what time would be good to be there.
Anywhere else to launch from on to lake?

if you wanna stay away from the idiots on the skis launch at Avi, or Needles marina it is the only place to be, :burningm: unless you like renters that dont know the rules of the water. :burningm:

It is about a 10 minute drive to KL, but you NEED to get your boat launched no later than 7:30!! Otherwise, you could wait hours (yes, plural) to launch. 7 is even better. There is another launch called "Princess cove, but I have never been there, I hear you have to go through a dirt rd to get there and the ramp looks pretty steep. You also have the option of driving 45 min on the Nevada side to Cottonwood. There are not lines there and if you are going to wait for hours at KL, you might want to consider it.
I think it is 5-10 $ to get in the park and $5 for your boat? Not sure exactly, we have the year pass. But that is for 3 days. Pretty good deal IMO. If you have a National Parks pass, your car gets in free. If it's too choppy, head north, eventually you will get away from the people, it is a big lake, but folks seem to hang out within 5-7 miles of Katherines. Have a good time and enjoy your Father's Day weekend!

Angiebaby is correct re: when to launch...get there early! 7:30 am is even pushing it (on weekends) As far as the kids go, you can get them breakfast at K/L restaurant AFTER you get settled in the lake….there are temporary boat slips that you can use and watch your boat from the restaurant.
Also, sometimes, on weekends and more so on 3 day weekends, watch out for police “DUI” check points, I have seen them on both land and water…and have been invited to both….and was sent on my way.
K/L (Lake Mojave) can attract the “lake lice” just like any other lake so be careful with the little ones especially if your towing skiers/ tubes etc.
From a personal stand point, Lake Mojave is as fun as Havasu…in different ways. The gambling at night is always fun and the lake as some pretty nice coves. If you’re in the “Copper Canyon” mood and want to possibly see a “show” Gasoline Ally is your place to go. I have not seen it quite as crazy as the Sandbar or Copper Canyon but it can have its moments.

These guys mostly covered it already. Get to Katherines early and then pull out by 2 or wait hours to retrieve. If you get there late then bang a right where the sign past the guard shack says telephone cove. There should be signs leading you to princess cove. I see that ramp from the water and it is never crowded. I don't know about a dirt road though as we are always early enough to not have problems at the main ramp. Launching is the best deal anywhere. $15 for three days. That's truck and boat. 30 or 35 bucks I think it is gets you an annual pass. that works for mead as well.

Don't take your boat down Princess Cove road unless you want to spend 3 hours cleaning it and tightening all the shit that rattles loose. :hammerhea

Going to Laughlin 6/20 thru 6/27. Thank god nobody suggested you launch at Telephone Cove! I wouldn't want that ramp to get more crowded. Let all the suckers wait 2 hours to pull their boat out of Katherine's while I'm pulling out in less than 10 minutes at Telephone!
Telephone Cove is about a 3/4 mile drive on dirt road off of the paved road. Princess Cove is aobut a 4-5 mile trip over a dirt road.
How old are the kids you're taking? I'll have my 2 boys (7 and 4 1/2) with me as well as my wife, mom, and brother.

The big bend state park is nice too. Cheap parking and has lots of space to move around. Launch ramp is only three boats wide though. I used to launch my river lice from there. Had lots of fun. Dont know exact directions, Try to google it.

Forget it then. Dirt roads suck. I do it with the lake lice but not the boat. Telephone sucks because you have to launch in the dirt. Good luck trying to pull your rig out of the mud.
As far as big bend that is on the river. Great for lake lice or low profile jets. I'd be scared to put a bigger boat or a prop on the river. Big Bend is nice though. Just take Needles Highway south about a mile or two past the intersection with Casino Drive and it will be on the left hand side.
