View Full Version : My Boating Season is Screwed

Not because my boat is broken, but because I am taking a new job. Now I know I'll catch a little shit for this so go ahead. For as along as I can remember I wanted to be a cop and after 5 years of testing with different agencies I just got picked up by the Glendale Police Department. My official start date with the city is this Monday the 20th for a week of pre-academy training and then on Monday the 27th I start the acedemy at STARS Center in Whittier. To add another level of complication to my life I am getting married on the 25th of this month, 2 days before starting the academy. So to say I got a lot of shit going on in my life right now is an understatement, but I couldn't be happier with the way things are going. So pretty much my summer is screwed. I will be trying to make an appearance at CBBB but it all depends on my schedual and how much studying I'll have. I'll try to get on here and keep in touch but I might not be able to take reading all your stories and seeing all the great pics from your weekend boating trips while Im getting yelled at by the Drill Instructors and running and doing push ups in the summer heat. :D :D :D So if I don't see you on the water this summer, pour a little beer out on the ground for your homie who couldn't make it. But don't worry, after Academy and Probation I'll be on the water a lot since we only work 3 days a week and I will be stepping it up a notch to run with you big boys too, so be warned. :D :D :D

yes you will be bussy... i was a sheriff's deputy in ventura county for six years. the academy i went to was one of the only remaining srtess academys in the state. i did it right after i left the marines. it killed six monthes of my life. i did nothing but study and write memos. if yours is anything like mine was, your in for a long haul.... good luck with the job, it can get crazy at times, but it can also be very fun at times. you think the academy is gonna be stressfull, wait till your on patrol training. at least your with a pd, and youll be headed to patrol right outa the academy... i had to spend six monthes in jail & two years in courts and thats a long time to forget what the academy has tought you. too bad your not going to an S.O., id save u a few grand and give you all my old uniforms n split like that. good luck again... nelson#109.... oh, and remember, if theyre worth shooting once.... theyrye worth shooting 10 times. its better to be judged by 12 then caried by six.

ITS ALL GOOD

Wilson definitely makes some nice rigs, but Glendale only authorizes Sig in 9mm and 45cal at the moment. Not my favorite but very good guns anyway. They also just authorized weapon mounted tac lights for night patrol and are starting AR-15 training for patrol officers too.

Good luck, my academy here in Sacramento was very tough. I thought I'd seen it all with Ranger school/airborne school etc, the Academy was very hard, a different kind of hard, but still very hard. Learn to trust those Sig's. I was a 1911 guy through and through until I picked up my Sig P220, I think its one of the best guns ever built. Good luck-Aluminum Squirt

youll love the sig, they are the best handguns availible.... i caryed the 9mm 226, a 40 cal. 226, and a 45 cal. 226.... the 40 was the best i had... ive been in shootings, its nice to have extra rounds in the mag., but it sucks when the rounds your puting on target arent working. still have my 45., just collects dust these days....

I really do like the Sig, I've shot them many times as shooting is one of my hobbies. Deep down I'm really a Glock fan but the Sig is top notch also so no worries. The .45 shoots like a Cadillac even compared to the 9mm Sig. Glendale authorizes the P-220 .45ACP which shoots great. The only complaint I hear about it is its weight fully loaded with an additional 4 magazines on your duty belt, it adds up. I'll keep you all posted on my journey. Thanks to everybody for your kinds words of encouragement and I hope to see you all on the water soon.

I'm in the hiring process for CHP, never thought I would want to be LE, but funny things happen like that. I live in Eagle Rock and I am in Glendale every day, in fact I know some people on the force.
I have been running at the rose bowl recently if you want to run sometimes.

Hallett19, thanks for the invite to run but I start working at the station Monday and we'll be doing PT, then I have my wedding this weekend and then Academy starts the Monday after the wedding. So I'm kinda out of time. I appreciate the offer though, it's always better to work out with a buddy. Good luck with CHP, they are a top notch department with some of the best training in the Country. Keep me posted on your progress.

Hey Hallett19. If you go to the CHP academy, you'll be in Sacramento. Give me a holler if you need anything. I was actually born and raised in Pasadena so we may know some of the same people. Anyway, I'm with Sac PD and if you need something while you are in the academy, give me a holler on the boards. If my tin boat is back up and running, I'll give you a ride you won't soon forget-Aluminum Squirt
