Thought I would share this with you jetters. As some of you know, I rigged 90% of the CPs from 1982 through 1995. I took on a little part-time project about 2 years ago and finished it recently. It runs out of Aha Quin and should get a little respect once she's dialed in...........

Your timing couldn't be better. I see some ideas there that I may be able to "borrow" for my 18' Gullwing project.

Congrats on the ride. One of the cleanest installs I've seen. Looks like the motor plates attach to the sides of the angles? Is the hydraulic steering your design? Very nice!

Randy,
Look right on the front of the plate, he has angle mounted horizontally from the plate to the stringer. Defintely a very clean setup. Lots of forethought going on there.
Joe,
On the steering, if I recall correctly, he's using a sea star hydraulic helm, hydraulic hoses and the bimba cylinders you see actuating the steering arm. I'm going off of memory because when he posted this a year or two ago, I was very interested in it. It was one of those things that I could see working in "theory" but wanted to wait until someone else had done it before I threw down $500 for the helm only to find out there may be a problem. From a drag race standpoint, the only issue I could maybe see is that with hydraulic helms, the wheel does not always return to the same spot, so knowing where center is on the rope could be a trick, but perhaps he's found a way around that too. I'd definitely like to hear some first hand stuff on how the system works out on the water at speed.
Either way, damn nice job on the whole boat.
Chris

Thanks for the comments.
The steering is made up of some off the shelf components and some custom pieces that I made.
Off the shelf parts:
Teleflex Seastar 2.4 cubic inch / rev helm pump
Aurora 3/4" x 3" S.S. Cylinders
Custom parts:
Cylinder anchor plate that is connected with the bowl bolts
90 deg S.S. bulkhead fittings on transom
S.S. Clevis Ends on cylinder rods
I ran nylon tubing from the helm to the bulkheads then S.S. braided outside the transom.
The full sweep of the nozzle = 1 rev of the steering wheel. Standard steering is usually about 1.25 to 1.5 revs lock to lock.
HB............your question about the engine plate mounting was answered above by Crazy Hippy
In my opinion, and for obvious reasons, this type of mounting system is more rigid and provides better engine support (directly over the top of the stringers) than the standard 2" x 2" angles bolted to the side of the stringers. Also, this system allows better access to the bilge area for mounting a fuel filter, oil cooler, etc. plus servicing is easier.

Very clean! I really like to see all hard lines. The seats look a little dated and I like the center console. I would like to see an Inteledash (spelled wrong) and get rid of all the gauges. Great job.

SoCal, that thing is bad-ass!
That's got to be one of the cleanest rigs I've ever seen. Everything about it says "detail". Absolutely beautiful!
I'll bet those blower drive pullies get swapped real quick.
Enjoy!!!

Thanks...........I knew somebody would pick up on the under-drive pretty soon.......the static compression is a little high so we're starting on the conservative side. Never heard of an engine eating itself by being a little on the fat side.

Damn! That blew past me..........classic movie, classic line. Speaking of lines,,,,,thanks for the compliment on the hard lines. They were pretty time consuming especially since it's the first time I've ever done them............... I lost track of the hours. Turns out the best deal on the material was at Aircraft Spruce. I bought some pieces at G&J and Bonaco as well.

Boat looks awsome. I bet even better in person. It looked great last time I saw it, and it was no where near that complete. Glad to see you stuck with the hyd steering. I really like the hard line, and how you came through the back plate with it. Is it still the original owners, or did you take it over?
Did you ever get rid of the other one?

I still have my 82 and will try to get it re-rigged by next summer. The owner of this boat remained patient with me and he ended up pretty happy with it once he stuck his foot in it. He had it out Memorial day and it ran pretty good with the exception of a couple of minor issues. I drove it once and was especially happy with the steering. It worked great on the bench and in the boat while on the trailer but I was even happier with it when in the water.
I thought the console would be sort of cool and it ending up turning out good. Even though the grab handle looks a little out of place, it is very functional. (It already has some fingerprint impressions permanently embossed in it from the owner's wife).
My original plan for the seats was to build an exo-skeleton bucket structure and suspend the seat cushioning (sort of like a hammock). I ended up going with the fabbed aluminum on this one and will try the hammock concept on mine.
Robert & CS19
The boat will be @ Aha over the 4th but I won't. Going to a family deal up north. Hopefully we will catch up later in the summer. The expectation is that it will run around 110.
Here is another pic of something I did a little different.......I built a recessed transom plate that has a studded flange around the forward face. With this design you only have to remove the interior plate to pull the jet drive......the bulk of the TP assembly stays attached/sealed to the transom. I am in the process of of building the driveline cover and will be plumbing the bilge dump line in hard line as well.
