I'm not in Havasu, but in Tucson we kick it up to 85 when we leave for a couple days...

I assume you are talking about in our houses when we are not staying there. When I leave I set it at 90degrees. We have really good insulation and a kick ass a/c unit so it only takes about a hour or 2 to get it down below 80 when we get there.

Its better than not having the a/c on at all and having it at over 100 in the house. Thats why I always leave beer in the fridge. We show up, turn a/c to COLD, have a couple beers and it's all good. :D

Then we take a shower cause we just sat in our own sweat for a hour or two drinking beer. How cold is your fridge 58?

88....
Works out great. House is just cold enough to feel good walking in and a perfect temp so that nothing melts in the house and all the contents will last longer through the years.

We leave our unit off. The house stays pretty cool even on the hot days. We gave our neighbors a set of keys and they turn the unit on when we tell them we are coming up so its allways nice and cool when we get there. It only takes about an hour to get temp into the 70s.

We usually turn it off, unless someone is coming out the next weekend, then we will leave just above 80. Our neighbors also have keys so we just call and they turn it on for us.

Well.....
85 when we're away......and 73 while here......
Also, you shouldn't leave it off when your gone during the Summer....
The extreme heat will wreck your furniture......
and.....I found this neat IP based thermostat that you can turn on/off over the internet.......Just gotta' get a CAT-5 wire from the wireless router to the thermostat location and BINGO, no more bothering the friends & neighbors....

The house I usually rent, until mine get's built, keeps the stat at 90 while away. I think it depends a lot on the insulation, windows, AC unit efficiency and such as to what will work best for you. Maybe try the mid 80's, until the electrical bill starts to come in higher than you would like to see. :220v: :D

We put the water in the sink and leave the air off until we are about 2 hours away and then we call in and turn the air on to whatever temp we want.. via cell phone. And let me tell you it is great, the house is nice and cool by the time we get there and if you forget to turn it off before you leave you can call and tell it to turn off. My husband installed in a couple of hours..
Here is the website if anyone would like to check it out...

Leave it at 90 when we're away. The first couple of times we left, we turned it off completely and it got so hot it warped our furniture. ALWAYS leave it on to at least 90.

We leave it at 95 when we are not there. Then we are on the way, I call the house, the computer picks up, I set the inside temperature to 74 and it's nice and cool when we get there. BTW, it has never gotten warmer than 88 in our house.

We turn our A/C off by the switch in the garage and have three home depot 5 gallon buckets with water set around the house for a little added moisture in the air.
Amazing to come in after a week or two and see all the water that has evaporated from those buckets.
When I come out I call my neighbor and have him flip the switch in the garage for us to a cool 77 degrees.
This also is where I have our water softener system with a valve to turn the interior water off. When you leave or return just have to flip the hot water heater, A/C unit switches in the panel and turn the water valve on or off.

Ninety, to cheap to go any lower. Never any problems. Usually leave buckets of water out.

Yep...90 when away, 75 when there.
We melted a few candles the first time I turned it completely off Apr/May last year. Won't ever do that again! I swear it was 125 inside the house at 11pm when we got there. Took until 3am to get it down to 80. Sucked with two young kids too.

90 when we leave, low 70's when we're there. It doesn't take our place too long to cool off,though....very efficient a/c unit

We do the water in the buckets dealio. I usually turn off the A/C but I think I'm gonna start leavin it around 92. We have a swamp cooler and A/C for the house. If I forget to call the neighbor to turn on the A/C we just crack some windows with a cold beer and fire up the swamp cooler. It'll get things started and after about an hour switch to A/C.

Yup, same here..luckily my candles were in glass jars. Liquid candles instead of solid ones. Fridge would groan too.
Now I leave it around mid 90's when gone and 76-78 when there. Sometimes it gets turned on for me before my arrival otherwise a few hours and its cooled down, although the furniture and bedding takes longer.
When it gets hot enough in the summer I leave the water heater off too.

Interesting thread...we normally turn it off, and have not had an issue...also don't do the water thing...., again, have not had an issue in 5 years...but we are there like every week. However, I am going to try and start leaving it on at 90 and see what the bill looks like...I am also thinking of keeping the Commercial ICE Maker running...if we are going to be there back to back weekends....just hate leaving the water on when we leave...

We're in Havasu only 6 days a month. We set the A/C in the summer to 90 while away and put out a bucket of water to help humidify the air a little. Our house has R50 in the Ceiling and R25 in the walls with tinted Low-E windows. The garage is R25 ceiling and walls. We have a dial-in security system with home automation so I can check the temp inside from anywhere in the world. It never has gotten over 88 in the house no matter how hot it has been outside. If fact I just checked...86° right now! We switch off the ice maker and have a valve before the water softener to shut the water off to the whole house.
