If its the steel lock nut, save your self a lot of grief, and cut it off. If you try to take it off with heat, you make end up taking the treads off the shaft as well. Cut it off with the whizz wheel, and becareful not to cut into the treads. Once cut down to near the threads, you can hit it with a chisel and it will fracture the nut, and it will come off easy.

Get the Aluminum nut, instead of the steel one, and use locktight to keep it put, once tightened.

If you have a buddy, and a looooong (18 to 24") 3/8 drive socket extension you don't want anymore, you stick it thru the middle of the coupler and put the right size combination wrench (I have some huge ones) or a good-sized (18 to 24") pipewrench on the nut and I've not had any trouble. Some PB Blaster a half-hr before does help (beats WD-40's azz). I think 1 3/4" is the size. If you were near here, I'd give ya a hand.

I had the same problem your having, i bought a big ass wrench to fit it off ebay and beat it with a small sledge... Nothing

I put the new nut on that came with my kit from HTP but it just chewed the threads in the nut up... I ended up taking the shaft to a local shop (MPD) and having jack chase it. If you hit the threads at all and the nut doesnt seam to want to go on, stop... take it to sombody and have them chase the threads!
