we have one in parker nice to have but if people start calling cali it adds up real quick.we have kids and im always keeping a eye on them.

I have one only for the reason I use it as a rental in the winter. I do have a block on it though where you can't make any long distance calls. I use my cell for that stuff.
Did Kilr buy a house in Havi? :confused: :smile:

We do not get good cell service in Parker so we got a Lan line. With having kids and all you need to make sure somebody can get in touch with you..also if bringing the lappy out it is good to be able to use the dial up connection. It cost us about $40 when all said and done.

Who has them and do you really need them, what is the monthly cost....
frontier is $22.95 per month for me but I signed up 3yrs ago, go to www.frontiernet.net to find out todays cost.
also NPGCable is adding phone service to cable customers in LHC this month, think I will drop frontier and wrap it all up in one bill

Nowadays alarms can utilyze an IP connection. So if your going to have cable, internet why not get an alarm that can use that as well and use your cell for calls.

We have one set up on a local call plan. I use my cell for long distance while there. About $30 a month. I guess I'm from the old school and feel we need a hardline in the house.....no other real reason.

We live here in Havasu and rarely use the home phone.Wife & I always use our cell phones.Keep threating to get rid of the home phone just haven't gotten around to it.

Robin says no need for one. I say you need one. Cell coverage blows for me.
Robin has AT&T and her cell coverage is better. I have Cingular and it is no bueno.
My bill is usually about $19.00 dollars a month.

Hi, I think I pay 30 bucks a month but I also get 300 plus minutes of LD. That helps when we have guests over because cell service is so bad. It also helps becasue we have voice mail on the phone so we don't misss any messages from anyone when we are there. For heavens sake we should miss a free cocktail.

Exactly! We do use it for local calls as well, very few of those made though. I think the highest the phone bill has been is ~$20.

We have one and have always had one. We first got it before cell phones were a dime a dozen but now we need it to open the gate to let people in the compound. We do have to watch it though when people are over and not fully aware that it does cost everytime they call their gf/bf a full state away.

I average about $23 a month. Cell phone coverage at the house is 50/50. I buy the Costco phone card for making the long distance calls. It wasn't worth the trouble and money to activate/deactivate the phone only for the snowbirds. I take the laptop and use the dial up. The dial up is much faster than I expected and does the job.

Congrats on the Havasu pad! If you need any work done, plumbing, electrical, A/C, let me know, I've got the names of people we've used and have been happy with the work. Just calling any old shop is not the way to do things in LHC, some are excellent, some are good, some don't show when they tell you they will.

almost everything is fairly new the house is only 6 years old....

No you don't need one for an alarm. I do not have one. We use our cell phones. The A/C thing is interesting but get your windows tinted and leave your a/c at 90 during the summer and you are allright. Go with Western Alarm they are the best in LHC and the hook it up via radio. It is cheaper. I pay 12 bucks a month for monitoring and it is safer. No phone line for the burglar to cut.
