Towing a 24' Ultra with a 2004 Hemi Durango 4x4. Pulls very strong. Will pull 70+ from Phoenix to Flag at 7,200 feet. The bummer about the Hemi is the power is in the higher RPMs so it likes to rev. Averaged just shy of 11 MPG towing to Powell and back. Just got the same from here to Mead. Gets 15 MPG unloaded. Full time 4x4.

Well that doesn't sound to bad.

I tow a 20 ft Taylor just about every weekend. Truck is an 04 4x4 quad cab. No problems and plenty of power. 16mpg empty 11 towing in the hills of West Tn. I installed a B&m trans cooler just to be on the safe side.

I have the Hemi 4x4 Crew Cab with 315 BFG's and a 5.5" lift. Tows my 24' Essex no problem. I recently upgraded from 3.92 to 4.56 gears. Big difference. Better towing and better mpg around town. Hwy mpg stayed about the same. I get just under 14mpg with the cruise set at 75mph going to Laughlin. That's without the boat. The 34-gal tank makes for a nice "no fuel stop" trip.

I tow my 22 shockwave with my Dodge 1500 with a 10 inch lift and have no problems. Gas sucks but I get to write of my gas as a business expense so no worries..

I have a 05 Durango Limited 4x4 with the Hemi and pull a 27' Ultra Shadow. All kinds of power in the world. Using the "tow" mode I get about 9.5 mpg. When I tow without the "tow" mode I get 11.5-12 mpg depending on how much I get into the pedal passing vehicles on the interstate.
Around town without the boat I get 18-20 mpg. On the interstate I get 22-23 mpg. I traded in a dodge quad cab dually with the Cummins to get the shorter wheel base and more room for the little ones. The shorter wheelbase works great for the tight areas around the ramps out here. I do miss the diesel though :(

That is exactly what we did. Except the fact that an ass-clown rear ended my Cummins made the trade a little easier to take. As far as towing in non-tow mode, be careful. The trans will run hotter and this is not good. Tow in tow mode and deal with the gas mileage.

The biggest problem with the new Hemis is whatever you do to make more power, like intake and exhaust, is countered by the computer. You can upgrade and the engine will counter-act the steps you take. I suppose that is the wave of the future, but so much for the performance mod market...

This system seems to work fine with the Hemi!

Yeah, but then again that's a little bit different than just doing intake and exhaust and the simple gains now isn't it???  :jawdrop: :D

thats why you re-program the computer.. software is a wonderful thing. :)

Yeah, software is a great thing, but doesn't it seem kind of silly that the computer would take steps to make the engine counteract any gains that you put on to make it more efficient and help it make more power?? ;) :D

im sure there is a reason for it?? maybe to help the engine run better should it develop an exhaust leak or some other problems during a trip. i only have 2000 miles on mine so i havn't even thought about tinkering with it yet. i like it just the way it is.

For 06' Dodge truck is an ALL NEW Quad cab, largest on market, like by 12". It has 21 degree reclining rear seats, new dash, etc. And all truck Hemi's are expected to have the varible displacement that the Magnum/300C has. It might add 2 mpg to highway cruzing.
