I was driving to work this morning on Hwy215 in Vegas going out to Lake Mead and there was a Dodge 2500 pulling a big Bayliner in the fastlane at about 75-80mph. I thought, what a idiot, get out of the fastlane and slow down. I never got past him and just before i was to take my exit i saw the truck, boat and trailer get sideways back and forth across the hwy. The boat slammed up against the center divider, across the hwy back onto the trailer, then off again and dirt was flying everywhere and the trailer came off the hitch but the chains held the trailer to the truck. Luckly the driver was able to save it and pulled off onto the shoulder. The boat is going to need some fiberglass repair, but it really didn't look all that bad. He could probably throw it back on the trailer and get out to lake before noon.
Sorry no pics.

I saw the aftermath on the way into my Office. The Rear of the Boat was on the Concrete Center Divide. I wish I had a Camera as well. The right rear side had a nice hole about a foot long though... He just needs some duct tape... :D

I didn't see the hole. It happened so fast and i was exiting at Warm Springs. It was like it happened in slow motion when it happened.
Stupid ass shouldn't of been going that fast in the first place.
Hopefully lesson learned.

its not just people with bayliners who drive like idiots.. everytrip i make on I-40 heading to havasu.. i get people with all kinds of boats and pwc's passing me like im sitting still and thats even when im not towing a trailer... i normally set the cruise at 75 when empty.. and 62 with a trailer.

The truck was a red Dodge 2500 4x4 extra cab (not the newest dodge bodystyle).

Why not? Afterall your life is partly in their hands when they drive like that when towing..... In other words, they don't give a F*** about your or their own saftey...

I agree
I am convinced that if I took a Porshce at 140 Mph down Rice (62) a Ford Diesel towing a fast boat and another towing a 30 Foot gear Box Hauler would pass me.

I tow my flatty pretty quick, then again the trailer is lowered on 225/50/16 z-rated tires and it is steady as a rock. My 25' Commander is pretty solid on the highway as well.

i really can't bad mouth the bayliners.. yes they are mass.. mass... mass produced.. and very cheaply built. but my first boat was an 1985 19' capri open bow that had a 140 evinrude on it.. i bought it used and ran that thing for 3 years before selling it and they guy who bought it is still using it. it topped out at a whopping 48 mph!!
would i buy another one????
no
all in all if your new to boating and don't want to shell out too much money.. i would say go ahead and get one.. at least if you find out you don't like boating.. your not out alot.
i currently have a friend who bought a "***boat", used it a couple times then left it boat parked on side of the house until the interior rotted out. now that was a waste of cash!

Last week on the 40, some knucklehead in a new black Dodge with Moss Bros or Fram paper plates towing a brand new 26'+ custom. Could have been a Lavey or Commander.
Never saw him dip under 80 mph. Hope nobody gets hurt with the nascar towing.

i think and belive a safe speed while towing should not exceed 70 mph. its not unreasonable and allowed in other states outside of ca. but towing should only be limited to first right 2 lanes only. and people should reconize that as the law. 55 while towing that is hard to do. and is unreasonable on the 40 fwy. not to metion dangerous, traffic flying up on you doing 80 mph plus them dodging you at 55mph. but in noway am i stating above 70 is ok.
outside of barstow going toward arizona and nevada the speed limit should be 65mph while towing, no reason for it, str8 roads flat great visabilty.
but people would tack on 15 to 20 ontop of that.
