J&E oil rings

Just got a new set of rings and I noticed that the Oil Rings have a small "black" and "pink" plastic block mounted at each end of the ring.
What the hell are they for?? Surely they don't get put into the engine that way.....

They are there so you can make sure they are butted together and not overlapped. You can leave them in or take them off. J&E oil rings seem to be the worst (pain) to install, as far as the expander staying put while the rails are installed.
