I am looking for a vintage aluminum scoop that came on some boats in the 60's, there was also one produced by mickey thompson, this is a relatively small scoop and basically has a small sguare opening in the front, most of the time not equipped with a air cleaner and the mickey ones had M/T stamped on the top right above the opening. I figured glenwood or somebody of that nature would be reproducing one but no luck, and i cant even find a picture of one to post, so if you have any ideas or places to look, or think you know which scoop im talking about and have a pic please post it and i will let you know, this is a piece i need to finish a 62 belair superstock/gasser project. The scoop almost looks like a square air horn or something of that nature, hard to describe, HELP

Hi,
I am new to the list, My name is David Kahn, my son Dan Kahn has been active on the list for a long time. I am a long time V-drive boat (40 years),
and an occasional lurker.
I may have the scoop that you are looking for. I am at Lake Havasu this week, but when I get home, to L.A. I will take some pictures. I think I have two different scoops, I believe that they have a flame arrestor built into them and go right on top of the carbs. They are 50's-60's vintage.

This is a shot of Thompson's first endurance Mandella. It was a ski boat they converted. They did some ski racing as well as the 500 miler's of the era. I'm pretty sure these are the air cleaners you're looking for. Sorry the picture is too distant to give any detail.
PS...This boat is owned, completely intact, as raced, by a collector up in the LA area. He wants me to restore it in the very near future, and guess what the only 2 parts missing are...the air cleaners! So if somebody has a stash of these, I'm in for 2.
PPS...If you are looking for the flame arrestor that just about everybody used on ski boats in the 60's, and it has the square opening, Glenwood Marine still sells them. The have an online catalog you can check out.

Those are the exact ones that im looking for, i only need one. There is another type that is very similar that is slighly angled on the opening, being shorter on top and longer on bottom. I have been told by some one else that they have a similar one from glenwood but cannot find it on there website. Lets see what you got, if there that hard to find, i can settle for something else, as long as it is from the era. Thanks

I just looked in there catalog that I have and didn't see anything. Then again that doesn't mean they don't have it.

Scanned it out of my catalog. Guess if you're going nostalgia...this new school online stuff is out!!  Maybe that "item not available" means something. I ordered one 2 years ago for a project and they still had them. Call'em on Tuesday.

I found the scoops that I have, they are both cast aluminum, one has a square opening in the front with a removable flame arrestor, looks like the picture that Dave Samons posted and the hole for the carb measures 4 1/4", it is brand new, and has never been used, still in the original wrapper, and has a black soft plastic cover that fits over the flame arrestor but could use polishing.
The other scoop has dual inlets opposite from each other, also is new and unused same 4 1/4" throat size with dual flame arrestor screens.
Let me know if one of these are what you are looking for. You can e-mail me directly at Dkahnjob@aol.com and I will send pictures.
