Hi!
We have got hold of a second hand Skater 28 pleasure version. We will have twin Merc 2.5 EFI Offshore engines on (300 HP each). Any experiences with this setup?
Cheers, Toffen G - Norway

Of course I've got an opinion on Skater.I'm pretty sure I've said this before."I'ts a Skater, how can you go wrong? The worlds fastest best performing offshore boats, period. It's no wonder when somebody puts a turbine engine in a boat it happens to be a Skater.I've got the 24 now and my next boat will be the 28.With 600 HP in the 28 you should see 115-120 mph?

I'd say you need to pipe down just a little bit there SKATERFAST. Great boat but your just a little to cocky

I laughed so loud.Because I read the reply 1st then looked at the Name.I can see your boat now,a nice blew Bayliner with a 75hp Tihatsu outboard.
For those of you that are a little disturbed about my comments and Gimprvr we are not at all serious, just good friends.Skaters are still the best though.

I personally do not like Skaters. I feel they are way to fast, and besides i cant afford one. I think everyone should have to ride around in an 11ft aluminum boat from sears, with a 10 hp nissan on the back (damn i cant afford that either)

ya hang the (2) 2.5's on that aluminum boat from sears and if she don't sink she'll be a runner.

Of course I've got an opinion on Skater.
I notice you're proud of skater but have no e-mail address???? all puff and no go???
Seriously, I run a BAJA 24' currently and am facinated by the 24 skater. I know they are fast, but everyone I see for sale is "low hours" or "stored for last three years".
If they are such a great boat, why are they not being run???
Can they be run at normal speeds ( 30 - 40 mph), or are they just zero to 100 mph boats?????
A serious response is sought.
..... from someone interested but not convinced.

Yes,I can't say enough about Douglas Marine(Skater). It's true I should be their spokes person or a salesman. There are only 2 problems with my Skater it porpoises at 65 to 70 mph and there is no stabin cabin.Big deal just drive it at 64 or 71.Everthing else is great. It planes at about 20mph.The reason they are not being run is Skater owners have tons of money and other interests.Only kidding.Skaters are few and far out here in the west because they are based in Douglas Michigan. As for my email address,I just don't like to use my work email address and the last thing I want to do when I get home is get on a computer. My work email is michael.mcclaran@biesseusa.com.Email me if u want.I can talk for days about Skaters.

Thanks for the response. If I get to feeling more serious about making the move I'll get in touch.
Again, thanks.

Will the 2.5 EFI's have enough torque to push a 28' Skater that is set-up for pleasure? Would you not be better off with 300 Pro Max O/b's?

The 28' Skater only comes in light weight and ultra light weight. No heavy boats here. As far as the 2.5 vs the 3.0 the best top end may come from the 300x (3.0). My friends who have driven both claim the 300's are sluggish compared to the 2.5 280hp. It may have to do with the taller gear ratio to compensate for the lower rpm 300x.

Sluggish? Really? I find that hard to believe? Were they properly set up? Can't you compensate for the gears by running lower pitch props or would you be hitting the rev limiter in that case? http://free.***boat.net/ubb/cool.gif

6700 rpm you can only do so much. Tall gears and lots of prop. I have heard they are sluggish from at least 10 different racers/dealers. Top end speed they do have.
