We barely got on the beach! That's me down there. Just thought I would post pics. of our local Columbia river gorge yesterday. You can continue another thousand miles past that, same thing. Have to chuckle about all the problems some people have to face...No noise limits, no speed limits, BYOB and camp fire :D

Actually was packed about 35 miles West of here, that's where fireworks are tonight. Thing is, when the last one goes off, hundreds of boats leave at once, and the water is so rough it's dangerous as hell.

Had to climb the sand dune to take pictures, 'bout had a heart attack :shift:
Kids played on dune all day, they would climb up, and then jump way out and drop 20' or so and land in the soft sand.

Have done the party thing, with a boat every 20' since '88. Guess I'm getting older. No, I take that back, boat is too fast to drink and drive. 20 minutes down river to party area  Fireworks are shot off over the river, just too rough for me!

It's in the low 80's but the water temp is always pretty cold for people not used to it.

Sorry, didn't look at the first pic well enough. That's Beacon Rock in the background.

Yep KrazyK you're right. That is beacon rock, and the two step mountain way in the background is Mt. Hamilton, 3.75 miles up(steep) couple waterfalls, and planes fly by lower(!) than you are, on the summit. Bitchin' hike.
Just so you socal guys don't get the wrong idea there are plenty of places to party, check out the 2005 Portland Poker Run

Looks pretty smooth for the Columbia River Gorge. That is the wind surfers mecca isn't it? Usually the wind is freakin' nuking through there. I was northeast of there on the Columbia River near Vantage. Hardly anyone there either. It was very windy on the 2nd. Pretty good on the 3rd though.

The crowds down river from Aha Quin (north of Blythe) were pretty bad too! We thought there would be a lot more people out over the holiday weekend. :D ;)

The Windsurfers are at home a little further upriver at Hood River. The east end of that gorge is a freakin' wind tunnel. I rode my motorcycle through there years ago and I swear I had to ride at a 45 degree angle the whole way. Maybe a slight exageration, but it was crazy.

The main water is chilly, but what you can't see in the pic. is it's only 2-4' deep 150' from beach, so the sun heats that part up pretty good. Intercoolers like cold water ;)

MOB- If riverbound doesn't buy it I may just keep it, will leave thread up for a while and then pull the plug if no sale.
600 miles from here to Sac. I think. Tent camping anywhere on river, lots of places. Hotels near water. For that matter, any of the Delta crew that wants to come up and check it out, we have an empty nice bedroom and full bath for guests.
All is well, new job getting much better, finally $ rolling in :shift:

I may be up there in September with my new boat. You locals might have to tell me where the hot spots are. I grew up in Portland but the boats I was on then were fishing sleds. :D
