Looks like it needs some attention, A repair sleeve on the tail of the shaft, make sure it's strait first. The impeller is beat up, looks like SS if so send it in for repair, unless you want new. The bowl needs new sleeves and a seal. time to open the wallet :)

I have the whole berk rebuild kit with an A2 aluminum impeller. should i go through and sand the inside of the pump to make it smoother, or do you want it a little rough? this is not a race boat nor am i looking to make it one in the near future. just trying to rebuild it with fresh stuff inside, the previous owner had this boat for 13 years and said he never touched the pump. would it help to extrude hone the bowl or is that throwing $ away that could be used somewhere else?

Ship the impeller to Goddard Kansas, by the time you get everything else done and cleaned up, you can go back stainless and he is not going to bust your ass on the cost, I like the warm fuzzy feeling of stainless........02...Vic

the impeller looks to be a S.S. "B" and you could detail the bowl yourself, if you think you need to or have it extrude honed but I haven't had any luck with Extrude people.........just my o2

I would definitely run the stainless. Just have it fixed up by someone who knows what they are doing and you're good to go. Heck, they may even give you a little trade in on that new aluminum impeller towards fixing the stainless.

Definitely keep the stainless impeller, and if you already have the pump rebuild kit you're good to go.

Boy you pump a lot of rocks don't ya. :crossx:
Seriously, good thing that imp looks to be steel, lotsa gouges and dings. Should be tweakable back into shape, Leading edges are dull as heck, but fixable. Others can speak on the honing on the bowl from experience, but persoanlly I wouldn't even bother unless trying to find every last MPH, and then I'd send it to a pro to get it flowed properly, not just get it smoothed by anyone. Ya might try sanding/emmerying the worst spots, don't cost anything and not likely to do any harm, just IMO not going to make any noticable improvement.
Yea, from the looks of the shaft tail it looks like worn low spots at the bushings. High-Tech has a repair part your local machinist can fit, not terribly expensive on either end of the fix, or you can send him the shaft along with the impeller and he can fit it.
The hardest part of the rebuild kit is the tail bushings, and that part ain't hard.
Good luck. :)

For what you are trying to accomplish, a lot of sanding and grinding would be a waste. Extrude hone is for High $$ race pumps that are looking for every little bit of performance they can possibly get. Use your kit and spend the money somewhere else.

OK, so who wants to detail this impeller? or who should i send it to? looks like i should stick with the stainless. i have no problem sending the new aluminum AA as a little down payment for having this one straightened up. wheres the person to send it to??????? can ship it today. thanks again guys for the input.

since you appear to have a new kit with new impeller why not run it that way and save the detail on the SS until you see how your boat runs with all the upgrades? One step at a time. Might be better of in the long run. Spend the money saved on other upgrades. Seems these guys are in a rush to spend your money. just my .02.

Send it to the man that gave you the good advice above, Duane at HTP.

you guys really like to follow me around? gheesh, honest answer to and honest question too. I can see why i DONT post pics of my boat. The guy has a NEW impeller so why spend more $$$ to detail the OLD stainless that he is taking out? He already bought the impeller so i dont get it? Now he is not sure because everyone is on the "fix what you have" bandwagon AFTER the fact. Come on dude, is it that hard to understand? Come to think of it, You talk so much about fags and such i can see why it's hard for you. Besides, he should use the extra money to pay his light bill right 396?
Oh and yes since YOU mentioned it....you should CALL don and see what he has to say.... cant hurt can it???Is this ***boat board or the HTP board mr taylorman? "send it to the guy who gave you a "suggestion" Why start shit? Better yet, call MPD also, from some of the pics of impeller work, it's very impressive. This guy should still run the NEW impeller he already bought no question since he's already invested in it. Hows that taylorman? Say something negative about that one now. :D Better yet stay off my post. Go play with your wear ring or something.

well didnt mean to cause a big stir here, i see your points of the fixing the stainless because it is a much nicer impeller that can handle more in the long run, rondae has a point i might follow by just throwing that aluminum one in there since its sitting on my work bench to see what happens, its not that hard to pull the bowl and use my impeller puller (15sec) to swap impellers. sounds like i'll go with what i have now, and sit on the stainless to see what comes about, i can always have it fixed and swapped later.

Here we go again, right back to Bench Racers. Look out Kimmie & Co, here we come! :220v:
You warming up the popper 396? I'm chilling the beer. :p
If we were in a hurry to "spend his money", all the advice would be "buy a new $1100 Stainless impeller from DPS, and an inducer too".

Is it Me? OR do some of the older stainless impellers look they were crappy to begin with? I bet they came out in the seventies and the casting, material, and machining is way improved now. They stick around cause they are stainless. Don, I am waiting for your input.
