I think the block is ok. Make sure your oil pan can take the bigger stroke.

Yep, you will have to grind the block. How much depends on the rod/bolts. But it will work and no big deal.

Yep the heads of the rod bolts will be the first issue. They knicked the block on my piece.
The second is oil pan clearance. I had to do a little sheet metal forming to get clearance. Don't remember what hit the pan, rods/ crank/ or rod bolts but a little dykem on the pan and a easy turn of the engine and you have a place to start! Or you just get the right pan, but that no fun. :D
A tip to check: Make sure that you brake the sharp edge left from the honing at the bottom of the cylinders. It can take a toll on the skirts!
Did you or are you going with a stock lenght or a +.250 rod?

is it possible to grind too much and possibly get into an oil galley?

I usely put bearings in take a piston andr rod together check it.do each cyl. That way no screw upsIt doesn't take a lot of grinding make sure rods don't hit pan. :D :D :D :p

I'm building on right now, and fitted the rotating assembly last week. I ground on the block where the rods pass the pan rail and ground the factory notches a little deeper before I test fitted the crank. I ended up with a mile of clearance, I dont think my block would have needed to be clearance ground for the 4.250 stroke. But either way, dont worry about the oil passage, you wont have to grind enough to get anywhere near it.
Personally, I like the Canfield heads, for the money they are right up there with the best of them.
You,ll love that 496 in your boat, they are torque monsters right at the RPM where you need it most.
