I have been running a blown 468 chevy in my V-drive with Stage 4 aluminum canfield heads a 685 lift crowler roller cam all Msd ingnition topped with 2 Holley dbl pmp carbs and I have no blower surge. Everbody else with blowers have blower surge I was wondering if mine is set up incorrecly or correct. Also Im running 15% overdrive on the blower.

Blower "surge" is usually caused by a lean idle mixture. I would be more concerned with whether you have enough fuel when under boost.

I would say yes I do. I check the plugs all the time and they look nice

With an injector...the fatter the barrell...the worse the surge. The richer and slower the idle speed..the worse it surges. Timing below 34 adds to surge also. Is your mag locked out?

Set The Flies At .010 Lock It At 35,turn It 60%over,set Idle With 65-70% Leakdown.and Forget Surge, surge Sucks Listen To Any Pro Mod Car They Dont Surge It Is Lean Fat Lean Fat Lean Fat...forget It,let It Idle At 2500rpm......any Questions...hahahahaha...just Joking ,blower Surge Helps To Put The Thingy In Gear. :d

WHEN YOU LISTEN TO A INJECTED BLOWN DEAL EVERYTIME IT SURGES WATCH THE BUTTERFLIES FLUCTUATE.THE VACUUM IS SUCKING THEM CLOSED THEN LETTING THEM OPEN WHEN THE RPM GOES DOWN THEN IT REOPENS ALLOWING AIR RAISING RPMS SO ON AND SO FORTH.YOU WILL SEE PEOPLE AT THE CAR DRAGS PULLING PLUGS OUT OF THE HAT WHEN THEY ARE DONE DOING A BURNOUT,THATS AIR BLEEDS.THEY LEAN IT OUT SO IT RUNS EVEN SMOOTHER,ON MY HAT I HAVE CAPS THAT PUSH IN ON THE TOP OF THE HAT.KINDA LIKE DRILLING BUTTERFLIES IN CARBS.....SURGING OR CRISP IDLE AT 2500 RPM THEY DO SOUND GOOD DONT THEY?

But principle the same. No surge does not mean anything other than you have a clean idle. If you want surge then you can make it do it.

Got that one correct. With a car if it has a surge makes it harder to stage if you don't have a trans barke or clutch. But like he said so surge means clean idle uinless you can't get the idle down to where you want it, in that case to lean.

Tighten the hell out of the belt. How is that mofo running?

you're kidding about the belt thing, right?

Why not just let it idle without the surge? Or do you just want it to sound cool?

Yup, found out the hard way on that, damn belt was snug but when the blower got hot and grew it got tight, along with making the idle speed go up. All part of the learning curve. You need teflon lined Kolbeco (sp) for your boat.

I was thinking worse case scenario: belt overtightented to begin with..all that aluminum expanding and voila! too much thrust on the crank and bye bye thrust bearing. that would suck.

Yeah, I read-it that he wants surge.
If you lean the idle to make it surge, you will have to do it in the water, under load. Don't think it would surge w/o prop load.

mine surges a lot when the air is good and not so much when its 115 degrees out. i dont dick with it. it is what it is and i just learned to drive with it. when its a boat with a tranny i just shift at 800 rpm and not at 1600.

Junk the carb's, put a hat on it bird will be fine. set the butterfly's at 18 barrell valve at well.........30 . 117 main jet to start, #33 jets in the hat, get 80-A fuel pump.
Then you will have all the surge you want :rollside:
Mine lopes 1000-3000 nana :p http://www2.***boat.com/image_center/data/524/1062IMG_3040_boat.jpg

I've never let any of my motors leave the shop surging, why would u want it to ? Its almost like running your carb mixture fat to sound like you have bigger cam, dumb.

My thoughts exactly.
If someone put an O2 sensor on an engine with MFI they would be floored at the
readings.

OK,most drag cars don't surge, because they want the car to 'leave' the line. Drag boats surge because we want the boat to 'move' off of the rope. If I set the injector on "KILL" mode, the boat would spin the prop way too hard! So I 'kill the low end' by "fattening" it up! You have all seen the 30" puff of black smoke as a BGF leaves the rope. WE DID IT FOR A REASON, to make the prop hook up quicker. The driver puts his/her foot down and the "TUNER" makes the boat/motor run as quick as they know how. We are 'tuning the clutch (prop slip)' just like a dragster. Just like 'Mr Fiat 48' said, "fatten up the idle", and it will surge. Injectors don't have an 'excelerator pump', like carbs, so they need to have a 'little more fuel' at idle. The "HAT" is the only way to go for MAXIMUM performance using a 'GMC' type blower. "It ain't gas mileage baby!" "It's ROCK AND ROLL X 10" "CROWER" look it up!
