Hello, I have 96 kachina labala 22.5 ft. I have been struggling with a porpoising problem I think is caused by the hook in the bottom of my boat. It starts at the transom and bows up about 3/4 of an inch with in 4 ft. I have been talking to a great resource named jeff at Marine Prop (801) 825-1352 who has spent alot of time and energy trying to find the right prop for me to obtain top speed, and tame the nasty porpoise. We believe we have the best prop for this boat but just can't make the porpois go away. Does anyone have any ideas or know of a way to straighten out the hook in my kachina?
thanks for your input, Will
p.s. I have trim tabs, that cures that problem, but obviously hurts top speed

Did you contact the mfg to find out why they put it there in the first place? I would be interested in that and their recommendations for props and CG stuff.

Alot of "hooks" are not meant to be there. It's actually caused from the mold warping do to heat as the resins go off, and the manufacturer not maintaning the mold. It just so happens near the transom be cause most boats are layed up thicker in that area. Some manufacturers have added "hook" to help make the boat more stable and plane easier. You can remove the hook, but it is a ton of work and most of the time requires that the boat be complete disassembled.

You should be able to get the boat to take a set with the drive. Trim tabs are used to supress porpoising on cat when used in the tunnels to compress the air exiting the tunnel to give lift. On a v-bottom they are generally used to control chine-walk.
