If you are ever in the south suburbs of Chicago, I would strongly suggest Submarine City. Best Subs ever!

I'm not much on cold subs, but for HOT subs, NO ONE beats Stuffer's (or Tummystuffer's) in Orange County. There are only a handful of them around. There is one in Irvine at the corner of Irvine Bl. and Alton and the only other one I know of is in Anaheim near Ball Rd and State College.
As for a chain store.....Quizno's!
Subway can die a slow death. Eat Fresh....HA.....not the steak that has been sitting in a warmer all day!!
There's a sub shop in San Luis Obispo, a mom and pop type place that has awesome subs! The college kids love it.

Used to be a little place in Yorba Linda called Frisco's... best dam turkey sub ever...
In grade school we used to take 'field trips'. The teacher would walk us all to Frisco's, we would usually buy pixie sticks and pop rocks and shit, then go to the Library.
It's still there.

Still there, but a different owner. They still use roast turkey from the turkey, not that processed shit. The All American is still the best. Most of the old employees are still there from the last owners.

I can not think of the place right now but will find out. It is in Chicago Heights the make the best meat ball sub and forget about the roast beef. I have not been there for 20 years and can still remember the taste. To good.
But if your in the High Desert then it has to be B.J's off of HWY 18.

i like subways concept and granted i have never turned down a subway sub but their selection of breads suck they need to get something biger and more crusty and firmer

If you're up in NoCal, and headed for, say, the Delta, get off Highway 4 (Solano exit) in Concord and hit Kinder's Custom Meats, 1820 Arnold Industrial Way. Anything off the grill (tri-tip, BBQ Beef, rib-eye, hot link) is great (o/k,
maybe not subs by some definitions), but they can also do just about anything else cold with all the traditional fixings. The shop is in an industrial park, and parking while towing could be a little tight. You might want to wait curbside while somebody runs in.

Bingo! I live in AZ but everytime I'm in Costa Mesa I hit the Tummy Stuffer! Incredible subs!
